Perfect. I use historical stories and autobiographies the same way. I like fairy tales that haven't had the wisdom altered out of them as well. Thanks for the links!
Karen Dietz's comment, August 21, 2013 8:37 PM
Great points Kristen! And I agree with you too Annette. "Sanitized" fairy tales really don't do us much good.

Kathy Hansen's curator insight, August 10, 2013 2:42 PM

[Disclaimer: "Kathy's Insight" is usually simply another pithy excerpt from the Scooped article] Recently I had the opportunity to sit down to discuss this topic with Susan Fisher, a strategic communication expert and principal at First Class. “People are always telling stories; why don’t they do it at work?" asks Fisher. “It’s because they have been taught that at work you use logic and slides and statistics; this seems more professional. Telling stories seems too emotional and possibly manipulative. So people stick to facts and numbers. But the truth is that real emotions always work better, because that is the way to reach hearts and minds, and also people get to see the real you. It’s authentic.”

The Ethical Implications Of Storytelling

"How can you expect a man who is warm to understand a man who is cold?" - Solzhenitsyn

An interesting article on how narrative and literature focuses the reader's attention on a question that requires a response. This brings the reader in a relationship with the story and leads him or her into a quest for understanding the self in relation to others.

An interesting article worth reading.

A University of Utah survey of judges in 19 states found that if a convicted criminal is a psychopath, judges consider it an aggravating factor in sentencing, but if judges also hear biological explanations for the disorder, they reduce the sentence by about a year on average.

A world view on business ethics.  Something that struck me is the comment about not being afraid to use humor.

Utilizing humor to help frame business ethics seems to be a good idea, and challenging as you consider framing the humor in a way as to not be unethical...or dis-respectful.
