EQ 2.0 seems more like traditional EQ + social intelligence or SQ

MyKLogica's curator insight, March 5, 2014 3:24 AM

¿Y a vosotros? ¿qué os parece?

Student Power!

Student Power! | ethical climate | Scoop.it
The key commodity in education has been knowledge. It's the reason why we built buildings called schools and required children to come from miles around to sit in a room with the knowledge held in teachers' brains and captured between the covers of textbooks. That model has clearly been disrupted or -- to be honest -- destroyed. (For those traditionalists getting hot under the collar, let me hasten to add that teachers and books are still very important, but in a different way.) When the world's knowledge is not just in teachers' brains but at students' fingertips wherever they are, whenever they need it, shouldn't that change what happens in these places called schools?

Teachers and students arrive in classrooms with personal curricula in the form of their personal autobiographies which filter their teaching and learning. Teaching understood this way is less instrumental and more relational and understands no one arrives fully formed. Those personal autobiographies continue to be written with historical traces being retained.

What we don't understand about trust

What we don't understand about trust | ethical climate | Scoop.it
Trust is on the decline, and we need to rebuild it. That’s a commonly heard suggestion for making a better world … but, says philosopher Onora O’Neill, we don’t really understand what we're suggesting. She flips the question, showing us that our three most common ideas about trust are actually misdirected. (Filmed at TEDxHousesofParliament.)

Trust and Trust Building | Beyond Intractability

Trust and Trust Building | Beyond Intractability | ethical climate | Scoop.it

Trust and Trust Building

Trust has been identified as a key element of successful conflict resolution (including negotiation and mediation). This is not surprising insofar as trust is associated with enhanced cooperation, information sharing, and problem solving.

The need for trust arises from our interdependence with others. We often depend on other people to help us obtain, or at least not to frustrate, the outcomes we value (and they on us). As our interests with others are intertwined, we also must recognize that there is an element of risk involved insofar as we often encounter situations in which we cannot compel the cooperation we seek. Therefore, trust can be very valuable in social interactions.
