English is widely spoken in northern Europe. Not so much in the south.

This is an interesting little tidbit that came to me by way of one of my former grad school classmates. I forget the percentage that's been quoted to me in the past (I feel like I heard it from Scott Abel), but people who speak English natively or as a second language fluently don't make up the majority of all languages spoken, yet the language of the Internet is often thought to be English.  The map in this article shows an interesting dynamic. I'd be curious to see what it looks like in other regions of the world, especially near countries that are either UK Commonwealth countries or former British colonies.

For exemple in France, we don't have cartoon with english subtitles.. We have to change it to improve the english/french skills!
