Knowmad society: the “new” work and education

Knowmad society: the “new” work and education | eSkills | Scoop.it
Purpose – This essay aims to introduce the “knowmads” concept in the context of converging futures of work, learning, and how people relate to one another in a world driven by exponential, accelerating change.

Ana Cristina Pratas's curator insight, June 7, 2013 2:25 PM

In a world driven by exponential, accelerating technological and social change, globalization, and a push for more creative and context-driven innovations, how can we ensure the success of ourselves as individuals, communities, and the planet? This special issue of On the Horizon explores the converging futures of learning, work, and how we relate with each other in this emerging paradigm.

Of particular importance is the emerging class of borderless, “new” workers; or, as I like to call them, knowmads:

[…] a nomadic knowledge worker – that is, a creative, imaginative, and innovative person who can work with almost anybody, anytime, and anywhere. Industrial society is giving way to knowledge and innovation work. Whereas industrialization required people to settle in one place to perform a very specific role or function, the jobs associated with knowledge and information workers have become much less specific in regard to task and place (Moravec, 2008).

Humans With Amplified Intelligence Could Be More Powerful Than AI_ | eSkills | Scoop.it

With much of our attention focused the rise of advanced artificial intelligence, few consider the potential for radically amplified human intelligence (IA). It’s an open question as to which will come first, but a technologically boosted brain could be just as powerful — and just as dangerous – as AI.

The 5 Stages of Building a Culture of Community on a Blog [Case Study] : @ProBlogger [hint: u need a lot of arrows] | eSkills | Scoop.it

"Yesterday we looked at some of the benefits and costs of building community on a blog – today I’d like to move onto some of the ‘how to’ by examining the stages of building community that I went through on Digital Photography School.

Build a CULTURE of Community – Not Just Engagement

Let me start by repeating the advice I gave yesterday that building community and reader interaction on a blog takes time. It won’t happen over night but develops day by day.

It is also something that YOU need to take the lead in as a blogger..."

Influencers on social media are either passionate individuals who turn out to be specialists or professionals involved who use Web 2.0 tools as part of their work. They take advantage of their presence on social networks for personal gain or as representative (or ambassador) a brand, company or organization.
