Are parents raising nice kids? A Harvard psychologist shares how to raise kind empathetic kids! | Emme Town: Baby Songs and Kids Songs | Scoop.it
Think your kids are being raised to be kind? Think again. A Harvard researcher and psychologist has 5 ways to train your child to be kind and empathetic. (PENTING!!! How to raise your kids to be kind.
Marc Emmelmann's insight:

Whether you are 65 or 25, you have probably met some rude and downright unkind children in your day, as well as indifferent or apathetic ones too. Are there reasons? You betcha. (Your grandparents were right -- "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.")

The author of this article juxtaposes parents pushing/pursuing "happiness" instead of "kindness" to others. Personally, I wouldn't lean too hard either way. I'd lean into both.

Instilling in your children the ability to make oneself happy is crucial. You model it to them, you explain it to them, and you prompt them to do so... just don't forget the other important characteristics of life that make one successful in life (work, family and social relationships) including "kindness" which manifests itself in manners, asking caring questions, and considering others interests in conjunction with your own.

Model kindness to your children. Make sure they are collaborating with other children, not just bulldozing through life trying to attain happiness at others expense, focused only on ones own "feel good" state. Happiness will actually be nurtured and developed TENFOLD by being kind to others and interacting with others in true kindness. Parents must experience this in order to demonstrate and teach it to their offspring. If you have not yet embarked on this parenting angle...PLOD ON! It's worth it! We all share the same sun and the same goal -- A REALLY GREAT LIFE FOR OURSELVES AND EVERYONE AROUND US!

My brand Epic Kids Songs promotes family values such as happiness and kindness, as well as honesty, fairness, manners, grace, forgiveness, fun, unity, humor and let's not forget -- "play."

Being "playful" is something that children and adults NEED. I know many adults (50+!) who are currently trying to tap back into being more "playful" in life...their children are grown and for some reason, they....forgot...how to play!  Epic Kids Songs is for them, too!
