NGOs to double usage of mobile technology in 2013

NGOs to double usage of mobile technology in 2013 | ePhilanthropy | Scoop.it
If technology is used in the right way, it generally improves people’s lives. But that’s not all, it may also help make new enterprises possible, even those of NGOs performing tasks that may seem far apart from advanced technology.

How To Add Value To Your Content Curation So Other People Notice

Via Beth Kanter
Norman Reiss's insight:

Great ideas on how to mix others' content with your insight

Beth Kanter's curator insight, September 27, 2013 12:27 PM

This article is from my colleague, Marshall Kirkpatrick, who used to write for Read/Write Web for many years and started a company called Little Bird that helps you track influencers.

He was on a video podcast hosted by Michael Krigsman for a roundtable on Influence with CEOs from  Kred and Onalytica.     Marshall points out in his post a question,  "How do I create Influence online?' at about minute 21 mark.

In a great example of following your own advice,  he write up a blog post with the answer to the question, providing value for the audience, saving them time, lifting up something important.   And, it wasn't a sales pitch he was lifting up, just his stellar advice for how to become influential.

1.  Be first place people learn about something important

2.  Explain something really well

3.  Bring together multilple perspectives

4.  Offier unique insight

5.  Be funny

These are ways that curators gain influence too.

These are the first steps for using blogging and social media to attract leads to your business.

Bonnie McEwan's curator insight, August 13, 2013 5:25 PM

Some of these are a bit off-beat, which is why they will stand out amid the clutter and perhaps generate some clicks to your nonprofit web site. Adapt these to fit the main areas of work that your organization does.

Example: I once learned how to assist a blind person on the street by watching a short video on YouTube. The video happened to have been created by a blind person who was tired of people making assumptions about him and his abilities, but it could as easily be made by a nonprofit that serves people with vision difficulties.

"If you have minimal likes, start off with Facebook ads to develop likes and get targeted followers. Once you’ve got a fan base going, start to use your Promoted Posts to show off your events, promotional offers, news and given you have targeted followers, these readers will be inclined to read the post and even share it across their network."

Thoughtful comparison of two common paid promotions.

Debra Askanase's curator insight, June 3, 2013 8:45 PM

Great side-by-side comparison of Ads vs. Promoted posts. A lot of what you may know already: use Ads to get Likes, use promoted posts to push important content out to your fans. One thing not mentioned: best to use Promoted Posts once you've seen that the post has a lot of virality already, so you know it will be well-received.
