The importance of the teacher librarian is intrinsically linked to effective and responsive information curation and dissemination in distributed environments within and beyond the school. Use of Web 2.0 tools has become embedded in good practice, and information curation has extended beyond the library catalogue to library and school information management systems for bibliographic and media resources, and various organizational tools that reside beyond the school in web environments, such as Libguides, Diigo, Live Binders, wiki, Delicious, Google tools, RSS, media tools, netvibes, iGoogle, and many more.

" | Tech Help Desk is expanding to Monday, adding another session to the computer help sessions (previously the Computer Clinic) offered by Westchester Public Library for patrons in need of computer help. The Tech Help Desk is free one-on-one technology help on a first-come, first-serve basis. No registration is necessary. The staff will do its best to tackle computer problems as well as topics of choice, such as cellphones, eReaders, tablets, email, Internet or any other technology assistance you require. If the problem is severe enough, staff may recommend patrons see a computer professional to solve the problem. Patrons may bring in laptops or electronic devices to the help desk, but they are not allowed to bring desktop computers. Computers are available for use during Tech Help Desk hours." Technology is not value-free. John Merrow explains how to turn kids — who are digital natives — into good digital citizens. Schools today must provide opportunities for young people to create knowledge out of the swirling clouds of information that surround them 24/7. You went to school because that’s where the knowledge was stored. That was yesterday. Think how different today’s world is. Today’s young people need guidance in sifting through the flood of information and turning it into knowledge. They need to be able to formulate good questions — because computers have all the answers.

California's San Francisco State University is opening a newly-renovated library that will house only a quarter of the million or so books of its collection. "Deborah Masters, the university librarian, described the old library as a “rabbits’ warren” in the New York Times; the new structure has been updated to include open space as well as multimedia stations, group study areas and a café. Such renovations indeed recognize that libraries, or at least those on college and university campuses, are seen and used as places for students and others to gather and socialize. With more resources such as scholarly articles from academic journals and even books now available on the internet — and with a student population more used to accessing information via computers rather than by paging through books and hefty tomes of bound journals — devoting more of the physical space to multimedia resources makes sense."
