A VERY IMPORTANT WATCH: This is WHY Corporate Sustainable Responsibility IS CRUCIAL - "GREEN" | Corporate "Social" Responsibility – #CSR #Sustainability #SocioEconomic #Community #Brands #Environment | Scoop.it

“If we never look at the consequences of our behavior, we can always maintain the illusion of our competence" Dietrich Dörner

VIA: AL JAZEERA "WITNESS" Expose "GREEN" Death of the Forests (:45min)

Green is an unusual and very timely Award-Winning film. It is a hard hitting portrayal of the causes and consequences of deforestation in Indonesia and the devastating impact of the rush to fulfill unbridled consumerism. It contains no narrative or dialogue and yet helps us emotionally understand the complex corporate commodity chains thru logging, land-clearing and palm oil plantations. NOTE: This film contains some upsetting scenes about loss of life from forest destruction... http://www.aljazeera.com/programmes/witness/2012/03/201231483446653151.html

David Korten/The Club of Rome Blog:

In 1972, the Club of Rome (CoR) published a report spelling out the obvious, but neglected, truth that perpetual growth of consumption on a finite planet leads to system collapse. The report called for a global effort to achieve “system equilibrium”—a condition of balance between humans and nature.

Europe's Chief Scientist Warns Against Using Economic Slowdown to Delay Action for Climate Changes

Europe's Chief Scientist Warns Against Using Economic Slowdown to Delay Action for Climate Changes | Corporate "Social" Responsibility – #CSR #Sustainability #SocioEconomic #Community #Brands #Environment | Scoop.it
The European Union cannot use the economic slowdown as an excuse to delay action on fighting climate change, the bloc's first-ever chief scientific adviser has warned.

The simplest way to think about increasing jobs is to make more stuff and get people to buy more stuff. But my point is that we can't do that, because we're running out of resources," Glover said.

As Europe's leaders begin to switch their focus from spending cuts to boosting growth and jobs, constraints on natural resources also mean that the EU cannot just spend its way out of recession as it has in the past.

"Make no mistake, if we had unabated man-made climate change, we would go through an absolutely horrible period of conflict and migration, until the world's population started diminishing very rapidly."

Rio+20: the financialisation of nature

Rio+20: the financialisation of nature | Corporate "Social" Responsibility – #CSR #Sustainability #SocioEconomic #Community #Brands #Environment | Scoop.it

Next on the agenda for profit-hungry financial institutions like banks and hedge funds are the planet’s natural resources. In June, governments and corporations will be meeting at the Rio+20 conference on sustainable development, and the conference looks set to be hijacked by the interests of the financial sector. The British government, with many others, are hoping to use the conference to drive forwards the financialisation of nature. What this amounts to is assigning a financial value to natural goods like water, forests and biodiversity and the creation of new markets in these goods, destroying and depleting them in the process.  The very system we all depend upon for survival.
