Guardian Sustainable Business: Largely absent from the business world, animal portraits without words or explicit messages around sustainability, were found to effectively change perceptions and communicate the need for change. Working with a team from Michigan State University, Joseph Zammit-Lucia analysed the impact of his animal portraits on viewers in museum and classroom settings. Without words or explicit messages about sustainability or conservation, around 90% of viewers changed their cultural perceptions of animals and made statements about the need for more sustainable lifestyles to help protect the animals.

March 2013 International Institute for Environment and Development A new international alliance of research institutes has identified eight major shifts that must take place for humanity to achieve sustainable development. The recommendations come in a paper published by the Independent Research Forum on a Post-2015 Sustainable Development Agenda, whose members include IIED and other think tanks in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, North America and South America. The research institutes joined forces to provide expert analysis to inform the on-going international policy processes that will shape both the Sustainable Development Goals (which nations agreed to create at the Rio+20 Summit last year) and the ‘post-2015’ development agenda, which is set to replace the Millennium Development Goals. This new "Corporate colonialism" is bringing farmer deaths, poverty, human rights violations and ecological catastrophe to Indonesia with little recourse for the local communities who suffer the effects of projects touted as "growth," the Guardian's John Vidal reports. In the match between corporate power and the poor in the archipelago, the number of conflicts is on the rise.... Investors in publicly traded companies are understood to desire stable, predictable earnings and growth. But such expectations are unrealistic in many industries. As noted management expert Geoffrey Moore told me with respect to high-velocity competition, "I'm not sure you ever want to be in the public markets."
