There's a serous disconnect between companies and potential employees in the United States—one that may be holding our entire economy back. And, contrary to the conventional wisdom, it's a problem that has been caused—and can only be cured by—companies. So says Peter Cappelli in his 2012 book Why Good People Can't Get Jobs.
In Cappelli's view of the state of the modern employment landscape, there are several issues preventing companies from finding the talent they need—and none of them are related to the conventional cries from businesses and the media about a lack of talent in the pool, or the failure of the American education system to turn out people with appropriate skills. Cappelli's view is right on. The HR systems of most US companies, which could be also said of global international businesses is riding the fast train to failure. Computers will not allow a fantastic potential employee to get in front of the decision makers of the position, if their resume does not match the computers screening process. In my opinion we need to get back to old fashioned screening of meeting either in person or through live web session to analyze and determine the capacity and skill sets that matter to the company.

Everybody thinks they’re a leader – most are far from it. The harsh reality is that we live in a world awash with wannabe leaders. As much as some don’t want to admit it, not everyone can or should become a leader (my take on the born vs. made argument). Simply desiring to be a leader doesn’t mean a person has the character, skill, and courage necessary to be a leader.
If you think you’re a leader, but haven’t been recognized as such, you have a problem. Either you’re incorrect in your self-assessment, or those you report to don’t recognize your talent. Here’s the good news; handled correctly, either scenario can be resolved if you’re willing to do some work. Via Martin Gysler

I like this sentence: "Facebook is a social networking site, not a billboard" Yes, it's a great reminder for everyone. This post puts the finger on the most important points of social media. Too many people think that Facebook (or other social media platforms) is only a showroom for his company or a product; this is not the right way. The interaction and real and useful information is the secret of success. Do you have another opinion?

I siti di social network sono il canale la cui efficacia è più legata alla disponibilità di capitale sociale dell’intervistato: il 50% di chi ha trovato lavoro attraverso questo strumento dispone di una rete sociale ricca vs 27% di chi ha trovato lavoro tramite i Centri per l’impiego e 30% delle Agenzie per il lavoro, ma anche 33% di chi si è rivolto alle reti sociali offline (amici e famiglia).
