Problem With Procrastination? Try This: Do Nothing

Problem With Procrastination? Try This: Do Nothing | Entrepreneurship in the World | Scoop.it
Just about anyone who has ever put off a troublesome task is familiar with one of my Secrets of Adulthood: Working is one of the most dangerous forms of procrastination. When there’s some chore
Samuel Pavin's insight:

Or be lazy ... again :)

It is Friday, the best day for doing less so that piece of advice comes in at the right time. Somehow.

Anyway, back to serious business, it actually hits the spot in the sense that Gretchen Rubin mentions her move out of house to avoid the temptation, "of the Internet" for instance.

That is where she is so right. Procrastination nowadays has less to do with doing nothing than it has with actually having lots of opportunities to do something else.

And this is where this piece of advice becomes an absolute rule for entrepreneurs (and other too). Guys you already have an awful lot to do. Do not let this lots distract you from doing the right thing, whatever that thing is.

Spending a hour with friends might prove as valuable as trying to write down business plan option number 12 (or more... or less).

Christine DeGraff's curator insight, April 26, 2013 4:45 PM

I actually think that this simple suggestion would work for me!!! Generally, if I am in procrastination mode, I find a billion other things to do (scoop.it) - but I really have tasks to complete. By setting aside a certain time each day where I can either a) do the task I need to do or b) do absolutely nothing at all - and once that time is up, then I can do whatever I would like... Well, I bet I would choose to do the task 99 times out of 100! Going to give it a try!

10 Questions to Ask Before Determining Your Target Market

10 Questions to Ask Before Determining Your Target Market | Entrepreneurship in the World | Scoop.it
A guide to understanding your customers and how your product meets their needs.
Samuel Pavin's insight:

A great article reminding about the very foundations of a business.

#Entrepreneurs do have great ideas and great drive (well, or not) ut they often get caught in the flow of things and just miss asking themselves the right questions.

And the target market, e.g. the customer(s), is among the most critical ones.

This article is a fair - and easy-to-read - reminder.

People, just make sure you do not launch a company, uild and sell a product, and ask yourselves the question of the market 6 months later (true story). That is if you do not wish to nail your own coffin.

10 reasons why a business plan is key

A piece by Tim Berry, on Entrepreneur.com.

"10 Business Plan Benefits You Might Be Missing"

Samuel Pavin's insight:

The business plan "issue" explained.

I often meet startups with no plans and that is my first take : a business plan is mandatory.

You need to set some foundations right and then build on them even if making mistakes.

But an overall direction and milestones are needed in order not to try to do everything and, in the end, do nothing.

A startup is not only fun and opportunities, it also require hard work and organization. And then, the fun can be added safely.

Becoming An Entrepreneur Is Less Scary Than You Think (A Case Study) - Forbes

Becoming An Entrepreneur Is Less Scary Than You Think (A Case Study) - Forbes | Entrepreneurship in the World | Scoop.it
It may be less scary to go off on your own than to hope that your corporate job remains safe.
Samuel Pavin's insight:

I am sticking to the #fear factor here here but it does seem to be the main topic at the moment - or say, the fancy topic.

No more failures, now on to fear.

Anyway, a well written bit here on this part and a good look into #entrepreneur thinking vs #employee thinking.

Ready to jump now ?
