The next Instagram? It may be one of these.
Risto Eerola's insight:

More stuff to watch in 2013, this time social networks.. ever wondered where all these come from? Seems new ones pop up faster than you can sign in, let alone understand what these are.. Anyway, pick your favourite. Chirp is kind of weird but also in a very cool way.

Who knows which (if any) will be a hit.

Are You Creating “Innovation Fatigue”?

You’re a manager, an executive, a leader of men. Your company depends on you, and you know it. You also know that in order to succeed in today’s tough competitive climate, you need to do one thing before all others.
Risto Eerola's insight:

After barely finishing writing "there's never too much innovation" on the previous 'insight', I came across Alf Rehn's post about Innovation Fatigue. Well, professor Rehn knows what he's talking about. And yes, there can be too much 'innovation' (at least in the sense of throwing the word around meaninglessly). That's the point of fatigue. I would guess the concept is applicable to many other trendy words as well.

"Ask yourself: Am I making innovation a meaningful concept for us, or is it just a word I throw around? Am I getting people fired up, or just plain fatigued?"

If true innovation was as easy as saying "let's innovate", there wouldn't be much talk about it.

Twelve Startups to Watch in 2013

Twelve Startups to Watch in 2013 | Entrepreneurship, Business, Startups, Technology, Web... | Scoop.it
Every new year brings a new opportunity for creative destruction -- just the kind of environment where a technology startup thrives.
Risto Eerola's insight:

Interesting tech start-ups for 2013. Though it is somehow funny to think that a company valued at +$1B is just getting it started! Seems that 5-6 years is an eternity in this game. Some names on the list are already well established and familiar, but it is worth checking (after all, it's hard to keep up with even the top-league names like these, given the break-neck speed that new companies emerge).

Meet Microsoft, the world's best kept R&D secret | PCWorld

Robots, holodecks and augmented reality. Nope, it's not a sci-fi movie. It's just a sampling of the insanely awesome projects of Microsoft Research.
Risto Eerola's insight:

Some of us hate it. Others love it. Most of us use one product or another from Microsoft. In addition to the basic products we all know, a whopping R&D budget of almost 10 billion dollars can support quite a few interesting projects. As the author well puts it: "Redmond spends more on R&D than Google and Apple combined. Think about that the next time someone tells you Microsoft doesn’t have a future."
