10 Ways to Create the Classroom of the Future

10 Ways to Create the Classroom of the Future | educació i tecnologia | Scoop.it

"While educational standards may differ from school to school there is one thing that is always nearly the same: the classroom set out. Desks are arranged in rows or groups, and the teacher stands at the front and teach. This set out has changed very little in a hundred years even with all the technological advancements that have been made. Edtech not only changes the way that children learn but changes the way they interact with one another, the classroom space and their teacher."

Projects Vs Project Based Learning: What is the difference? | educació i tecnologia | Scoop.it
All of these resources make sense on the surface, however many teachers fail to recognise that Project Based Learning is a process of sustained and deep inquiry. Rooted in the cognitive architecture of how the brain works and how humans learn. Without fully understanding this process our greatest intentions often result in engaging learning experiences for students, where deep learning fails to prosper.

The Future of Education: Transcending the Status Quo | edCircuit | educació i tecnologia | Scoop.it
Perhaps the main reason for this disappointing impact is that the inclusion of technologies has done little to change the “tell and practice” approach to teaching and learning — the predominant pedagogical practice of our time. In this model, teachers tell students what knowledge is and what knowledge is worth knowing; students meanwhile invest their vast capacity for creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration by memorizing and practicing what they were told. The overarching goal of this model is simply for students to accurately repeat the information they were told.

How Students Can Use Timeline Infographics in the Classroom | educació i tecnologia | Scoop.it

As a foreign language teacher, I am always looking for innovative ways to allow my students to demonstrate what they have learned.

I want students to be able to choose a tool that brings out their creative side and, as a result, leads to a more authentic and meaningful learning experience.

Because learning a language can be difficult, I try to design a variety of activities and projects that will provide students with practice and unique opportunities to develop their language skills through the creation of their projects.

Teaching in a Digital Age | The Open Textbook Project provides flexible and affordable access to higher education resources

Teaching in a Digital Age | The Open Textbook Project provides flexible and affordable access to higher education resources | educació i tecnologia | Scoop.it

The book examines the underlying principles that guide effective teaching in an age when all of us, and in particular the students we are teaching, are using technology. A framework for making decisions about your teaching is provided, while understanding that every subject is different, and every instructor has something unique and special to bring to their teaching. The book enables teachers and instructors to help students develop the knowledge and skills they will need in a digital age: not so much the IT skills, but the thinking and attitudes to learning that will bring them success.

"Although the book contains many practical examples, it is more than a cookbook on how to teach. It addresses the following questions: is the nature of knowledge changing, and how do different views on the nature of knowledge result in different approaches to teaching? what is the science and research that can best help me in my teaching? how do I decide whether my courses should be face-to-face, blended or fully online? what strategies work best when teaching in a technology-rich environment? what methods of teaching are most effective for blended and online classes? how do I make choices among all the available media, whether text, audio, video, computer, or social media, in order to benefit my students and my subject? how do I maintain high quality in my teaching in a rapidly changing learning environment while managing my workload? what are the real possibilities for teaching and learning using MOOCs, OERS, open textbooks?"

Good  tips ... most programs don't "develop" people anymore ... too busy with mindless tasks and forget that learn for learn doesn't work... it takes a  mindful approach to deliver a variety of learning around one topic multiple ways and most important real applications to get learning to stick

So many people spend time learning something, and then don't apply that knowledge in a different context. This article explains the steps we can take to really learn something, which is key to being able to use that knowledge in everything that we do.

Personal Computing Is Dead, Long Live Collaborative Computing | educació i tecnologia | Scoop.it

"Those of us who are actively developing for the HoloLens, and for the other augmented and mixed reality devices and platforms that currently exist, are constantly looking for the next bit of news or press conference about the space. Our one hope is to find any information about the road ahead, to know that the hours we spend slaving away above our keyboards, with the weight of a head-mounted display on our neck, will lead to something as amazing as we picture it. All the analysis tends to lead down roads that say 5 to 10 years."

One vision of the future. :)

Bryce Cooper's curator insight, May 30, 12:29 AM
I think that the hololens is a fantastic resource, and I hope that it gains more traction sooner rather than later. The capabilities that mixed reality could present to my own teaching in the area of history are quite profound. Students could physically experience historical events, see through the eyes of someone who was there standing on the ground when ANZAC soldiers landed at Gallipoli, or when the Treaty of Versailles was signed. Students could interact with the augmented reality and use it to create great collaborative projects. They could use it to predict outcomes of battles, from being able to physically see the circustances such as terrain and armed strength.

This resource supports the SAMR framework well, in regards to the higher order thinking aspects of Redefinition. Students can immerse themselves in a situation in VR that replaces the physical pictures, text and videos entirely, and creates a new dimension to engagement with a topic. Whilke a documentary full of firsthand footage can be insightful for a relatively recent era, VR recreations of ancient historical aspects could be invaluable for student engagement and learning.

VR has the capability to essentially redefine the way in which students learn and engage with history, and can present all new opportunities for teachers to plan and implement interesting and engaging assessment and activities.

Is Interactive Video the Next Big Thing? 3 Creative Examples from Brands

Is Interactive Video the Next Big Thing? 3 Creative Examples from Brands | educació i tecnologia | Scoop.it

Some fairly obvious characteristics have made video the web's most engaging media type when compared to text, images and combinations thereof. It's the perfect blend of audio and visual elements, drilled down into bite-sized chunks that appeal to the modern viewers' desire for immediate understanding.

But that's not to say it's quite the perfect storytelling device. It's close, but falls down in one simple area: when it comes to interacting with video content, users have only really been able to play, pause, rewind and fast-forward.

Interactive video changes that. In a nutshell, this emerging technology combines video content with user input -- allowing viewers to take a wide range of actions while watching video content.

They can click areas of the screen to define their own journey, answer questions, complete forms, buy products, download content and more -- often without leaving the player window....
