Why tech titans are shying away from children's content VentureBeat Remember all the toys and activities you loved as a kid? Well, its a different world now.
Katie Chase's insight:
With the way media has evolved over the years and continues to evolve, it is ridiculous that media producers tend to shy away from children’s material because they find it difficult to produce. They even predict that the number of people with smart phones and/or tablets, which is currently 1.5 billion, is estimated to jump to 7.5 billion in just five years. This is where the sales are so it would only benefit them to work harder and find out ways to produce popular, appropriate “family media.” –Aellise Czupryna
This defeats the purpose of going to the movie theater entirely. It does not make sense to have everyone in the audience bring their tablet to the screening to be able to interact. When everyone in the theater is on a tablet, who is actually watching the film? Audience interactions are a great idea but they are not appropriate for places such as movie theaters. –Aellise Czupryna
Coming to a theater near you? One of the dreams of comics fans is that comic book movies will get popular enough that some of the smaller but durable concepts will hit the screen. It’s part of the reason Arrow has a fan base.
Sounds like a comic book fan's dream. There's definitely a market for these lower budget films, although I would argue this it's for a very niche audience. These films seem liked they'd make quite a few nerd fans happy. -Edna Diaz
Washington, DC – March 11, 2013 – The U.S. video game industry today announced a new national public education campaign to educate American parents further about the tools and information available so they can ...
Katie Chase's insight:
It is interesting to see that according to a survey conducted by Peter D. Hart Research Associates in 2012, 70% of parents regularly check the ESRB rating before buying video games. Working in retail, I would have assumed this number to be much lower. Many of the parents I've encountered don't even realize there's a rating system in place. I'd also be curious to see the response to the newly released gaming consoles since there's offer a limited selection of games. -Edna Diaz
Storytelling for games seems difficult because the original author has to come up with so many alternative endings. Whoever is playing the game hears and sees a story that is uniquely theirs. This type of interaction really does set gaming apart from other types of media, such as television and film. I believe this is what attracts people to games. –Aellise Czupryna
People are always looking for the next big thing. These movies, scheduled to debut in summer 2015, will make any movie-buff excited. It is actually surprising this many top, box sellers plan to come out around the same date. They generally seem to space themselves out better. Either way, these films are sure to be big hits. I’m excited for The Avengers! –Aellise Czupryna
How Infiniti's latest marketing effort uses interactive technology to deliver its message.
Unlike more traditional interactive projects, Deja Viewrequires the successful connection between a string of variables, from smooth video streaming and natural language speech recognition to cellular technology integration and seamless editing, all of which is intended make the on-screen action seem linked to reality.
Entertainment is far from being a one-way road these days. Infiniti has come up with a unique and creative way to engage their customers. By going to a specific website, customers are able to control the outcome of a film through their interaction. Characters call them and the customer ultimately makes the final decisions. This new way to think outside the box may be the key to making customers feel they are a part of the brand. –Aellise Czupryna
Calling all comic book fans!! What do you think about Thor: The Dark World? It is a Marvel Comics franchise and didn't get great reviews. One India Entertainment says, "It suffers from Superhero fatigue."
This year, the League of Legends Championship Series finals attracted 32 million viewers. To put that number in perspective, that’s 30% of the audience for this year’s Super Bowl, and more than twice the average viewership for this year’s World Series.
Encouraging kids is fine, but films like Planes and Turbo take their messages to an extreme. Parents should turn to 1969's A Boy Named Charlie Brown for a reality check.
Katie Chase's insight:
It is a great idea to spread positive messages to young children through movies. By watching their favorite character overcome a fear, the child is likely to learn how to incorporate similar habits into their own lives. Especially for children who may be struggling, whether they are not fitting in with friends, or they have a negative image of themselves. Having positive self-esteem is a very good thing to be teaching children at an early age. –Aellise Czupryna
Earlier this week, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime cited history as a way to defend the Wii U's position against the oncoming Xbox One and PS4. In an
Katie Chase's insight:
Everyone is going crazy for a PS4 or an Xbox One. The Wii U? Not so much... and it's all in the games. Everyone of course has to get a little bit of Mario at some point in their lives but there's not much else after that. However, the Nintendo console still seems to be the go-to console for younger children. -Edna Diaz
There's a lot out there about violent video games.. but turns out most of it isn't true. Games like Grand Theft Auto do change the way the brain works, but i...
Katie Chase's insight:
The questions are always the same when it comes to video games. Is it too violent? Is it bad for you? The studies presented in this video seem to prove the opposite. After further thought it makes sense , of course, like mentioned in the video all with moderation. These games provide a platform for people to release themselves and do things they would otherwise not be able to do. -Edna Diaz
I think this raises a good question. If kids grow up playing violent video games, I believe learned behavior traits are possible. On the other end, a kid who has never played violent games has probably never been exposed to violence on a level that allows them to participate, the way one can through video games. It is difficult to give a definite answer though. This tends to fall in a gray area. A kid who plays violent games may never have the intention to be violent themselves, the same way a kid who does not play games could have violent, learned behaviors from another source. –Aellise Czupryna
The idea of two superheroes working against each other, instead of working as a team, is sure to attract a large majority of fans. Personally, I think this is a really great idea, and I am interested to find out who will win: Batman or Superman. No matter what the outcome is, I think fan’s favorites will remain the same. –Aellise Czupryna
Here is a behind the scenes of some of the things that go through a comic producer’s mind. It is always interesting to find out exactly how your favorite comic, movie or game was created, and learning what all went into producing the polished product. –Aellise Czupryna
A few days ago a column ran in this space — “Seismic Shifts Remake the Radio Industry” — written by Paul Goldstein, a consultant for new media companies. While there truly is a seismic shift in perception of broadcast radio and the facts surrounding it, it’s not the one that Goldstein claims, and the facts — and the research — bear that out.
Scarborough USA Plus data shows radio has actually increased its reach of adults 18-54, 25-54 and 18-34 over the past five years. Radio accounts for more than 90 percent of almost any demographic segment of the consumer market every week. And many are surprised to discover that radio is the leading source of reach among media entertainment.
Radio is evolving, like many other types of media. Sure it has competitors such as Pandora and other online sites, but newspaper, television and film do too. If anything, technology improvements have boosted radio listenership by providing other platforms for radio shows to be broadcast. Now people can listen to their favorite radio stations via the internet. Radio is hardly dying. –Aellise Czupryna

Are you thinking of reviewing the new iPad Air that came out at the end of October 2013. Apple is one innovative organization that gives value for money to its customers. It is one of the most light and thin tablet.
The new iPad Air has generated a lot of buzz for apple fans, but is it really worth $500?? The iPad Air does not come with the fingerprint scanner that the new iPhone 5s has. Personally, I think it would only be worth it if it had the fingerprint scanner. -Katie Chase
