Today social media generates more information in a short period of time than was previously available in the entire world a few generations ago.

 

I'm not sure what to make of the connection between Big Data and Social Media. I'm not sure anyone does, but it's obvious that there's an ocean of information about consumer sentiment out there just waiting for someone to figure it out. I don't think the current social media monitoring tools are necessaritly going to be the ones figuring it out. The Big Data folks from consumer research and folks like the Nielsen Company and allied firms are who my money is on.
