Post-Chaos 1.0 | Igniting digital leadership and innovation | Enterprise Social Media | Scoop.it

"I’ll say it again that incorporating the word “media” behind social has relegated it to the one department that is often least ready to take true advantage of social networking platforms: marketing. Marketing’s history of pushing out messaging to mass audiences, without any real directive to listen to a response, makes them the loudmouth at the party. 'LOOK AT ME! OVER HERE! I’VE GOT 42 THINGS I GOTTA TELL EVERYONE NOW! OK, FIRST...'"

Andrew Eklund is a great social media thinker and this post from his blog is spot-on. Social business is too important to leave to the marketers (or PR folk).

The erosion in the paid media pyramid

"Since the invention of media (the book, the record, the movie...), there's been a pyramid of value and pricing delivered by those that create it. Three things just happened:

A. Almost anyone can now publish almost anything. You can publish a book without a publisher, record a song without a label, host a seminar without a seminar company, sell your art without a gallery."

Another great Seth Godin post!

Dollars and Sense: Social Media and Businesses

"All those folks you see using their smart phones may be talking about more than their lattes - they may be talking about your business. If that's the case, if you're running your own business, you want to stay ahead of the curve.

"You can also get negative feedback as well and what I always tell business owners is to take that in stride. Use that to improve whatever it was that caused these people to give you a negative feedback in the first place and with that, you can move forward and improve yourselves even further."

Closing the loop here. I purchased this book and finally read it the last week. It is excellent and brilliant. Here's my review: http://www.bethkanter.org/info-diet/ The framing is great. And, there is a chapter that talks about content curation, only he calls information literacy.

Social Commerce Rule of Thumb, Part 1: Social Proof, Following the Crowd

Social Commerce Rule of Thumb, Part 1: Social Proof, Following the Crowd | Enterprise Social Media | Scoop.it

”To resolve uncertainty of what to do or buy, we often look to what others are doing or have done, and take our cue from them. When something stands out as particularly popular or dominant, we instinctively perceive this as social proof that it is the correct, most valid option – it’s classic peer power in action.”

There are some good practical recommendations for ecommerce in this post.
