Enterprise architecture is mainly about strategic planning and portfolio management. As such, Business Capability is an useful way to describe what a business needs to do to fulfill its mission in a context of a specific business model. A useful way to think about capabilities is as of individual skills that can be attributed to an organization and delivered through the combination of people, process, information, and technology.

Good comparison between Zachman framwork vs; methodology driven frameworks. What is interesting the most were the slides 8 to 11, where the author, iCMG group is going through some examples and try to give figures (time wise) when it comes to tackle some these problems (such as IT rationalization, data model modeling...)

The Leonardo Di Vinci famous quote: "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication"  summarizes well the challenge that any architect is facing everyday.

In his post, Tom gets to this fundamental point, that is the difference between theory (principle) and reality (practice):

"Right down at the root, in principle, architecture is incredibly simple. It all comes down to just one idea, one aim: that things work better when everything works together, on purpose.

Right down at the root, in practice, architecture is incredibly hard. It all comes down to just one aim, one requirement, that everything works together with everything else, on purpose."

To me, the key is how people, within the same enterprise, are able to cooperate in order to achieve their objectives, with the less waste as possible. That is what enterprise architecture is trying to help with.

New – EA training-course | Tom Graves / Tetradian | Enterprise & information architecture | Scoop.it

A full set of materials for an EA training-course, building on the whole-of-enterprise approach. (Whole-of-enterprise, that is, in contrast to the arbitrarily-constrained IT-is-the-centre-of-everything approach that most of the market vendors still seems to promote…)
