Lean & Enterprise Architecture: Enterprise Architecture for Lean Business Processes

Lean & Enterprise Architecture: Enterprise Architecture for Lean Business Processes | Enterprise Architecture | Scoop.it

How can Lean and Enterprise Architecture reinforce each other?

How can EA be helpful in Lean projects, i.e., how can you use it to help realize a lean and agile organization?

Via Frederic Blondieau
Emeric Nectoux's insight:

Providing architecture and process models

Reusing existing architecture and process models helps you to kick start your process analyses. This is particularly important in the Measure andAnalyze steps of the DMAIC cycle, where you create artifacts such as process and value stream maps to find bottlenecks, waiting times, complex judgements, rework, hidden factories and other issues in the processes.

Digital Transformation - Part I: It’s All About Networks

Digital Transformation - Part I:	It’s All About Networks | Enterprise Architecture | Scoop.it

There is no topic that is both more important and more confusing to business leaders than digital transformation. With the deluge of articles and keynote speeches on how the digital revolution is accelerating radical change, you would think that there would be more clarity about this pervasive phenomenon. Instead there is general sense of confusion reminiscent of the Buffalo Springfield lyric: “There’s something’s happening here; what it is ain’t exactly clear.”

What we do know is that none of us could live without what are now necessary gadgets that just a mere decade ago were figments of our imaginations. We also know that these marvels are changing our lives more profoundly than any of the progression of the twentieth-century gadgets spotlighted in Disney World’s Carousal of Progress. What isn’t clear, however, is the extent to which the technology revolution has not only transformed our gadgets but also the fundamental fabric for how the world works. And until business leaders understand the full extent of the profound changes spawned by the technology revolution, digital transformation will remain an elusive enigma.

The future of the IoT job market

The future of the IoT job market | Enterprise Architecture | Scoop.it
Since the dawn of technology, we’ve been afraid of technology eliminating our jobs. Look at the birth of the steam engine. When it was invented in the late..
Emeric Nectoux's insight:

In a nutshell, IoT will do exactly what technology does everywhere — it supplants low-skill jobs with high-skill jobs. Eventually, the Internet of Things will lead to widespread replacement of simple and repetitive jobs in areas such as manufacturing, administration, quality control and planning. But more importantly, IoT will lead to the creation of new jobs that will help organizations champion and pioneer not only their personal success with IoT, but the success of the business as well.

25 Predictions About The Future Of Big Data

25 Predictions About The Future Of Big Data | Enterprise Architecture | Scoop.it

In the past, I have published on the value of information, big data, advanced analytics and the Abate Information Triangle… nowadays, the role of enterprise data management in IT has been evolving from “A Single Source of Truth” into becoming “The Information Assurance Flexible Delivery Mechanism”.

Emeric Nectoux's insight:

In summation, consider that increasingly information is produced outside the enterprise, combined with information across a set of partners, and consumed by ever more participants so data is the new global currency of the information age and we all pass around currency – so let’s get cracking at delivering this to our enterprise (or it will go elsewhere to find it).

To the point, Big Data is an old acronym and the new one is “Smart Data” if you ask me.

A Strategist’s Guide to Artificial Intelligence

A Strategist’s Guide to Artificial Intelligence | Enterprise Architecture | Scoop.it
As you contemplate the introduction of artificial intelligence, articulate what mix of the three approaches works best for you.

• Are you primarily interested in upgrading your existing processes, reducing costs, and improving productivity? If so, then start with assisted intelligence, probably with a small group of services from a cloud-based provider.

• Do you seek to build your business around something new — responsive and self-driven products, or services and experiences that incorporate AI? Then pursue an augmented intelligence approach, probably with more complex AI applications resident on the cloud.

• Are you developing a genuinely new technology? Most companies will be better off primarily using someone else’s AI platforms, but if you can justify building your own, you may become one of the leaders in your market.

The transition among these forms of AI is not clean-cut; they sit on a continuum. In developing their own AI strategy, many companies begin somewhere between assisted and augmented, while expecting to move toward autonomous eventually

The enterprise architecture transition plan or roadmap is a simple artifact. However you will rarely find an ordinary, simple version. Most commonly this artifact is produced in highly over-complicated form, "gold plated". Stories of the $200 toilette seat spring to mind. I will explain the basic artifact, but it is up to you to resist the consultants and bamboozled managers who insist on it being more.

To Lead a Digital Transformation, CEOs Must Prioritize

To Lead a Digital Transformation, CEOs Must Prioritize | Enterprise Architecture | Scoop.it

Given the pace at which digital innovation is disrupting industries globally, it’s not surprising that most CEOs feel pressure to find and deploy the right technology as fast as their budgets will allow. Many are discovering, however, that becoming a digital leader isn’t simply a matter of technological savvy. It’s about creating an agile organization that can detect what type of change is essential and respond quickly with the most competitive solution.

Emeric Nectoux's insight:

Only the CEO has the power to provide this kind of direction across the entire enterprise.

To do that effectively, CEOs need a holistic view of the digital threats and opportunities facing key parts of the business, and a way to link them to an overall vision for how digital is reshaping the competitive landscape. This brings order to the chaos of initiatives and provides a clearer basis for narrowing down priorities and managing the cross-functional interdependencies that the best digital solutions often present. Three ways to manage the digital transition are:

  • Define where change is needed most
  • Choreograph the change
  • Empower people

7 Technologies that Enable a Microservices Architecture - InformationWeek

7 Technologies that Enable a Microservices Architecture - InformationWeek | Enterprise Architecture | Scoop.it
Organizations that implement microservices often adopt the architectural style alongside complementary technologies, including the seven in this slideshow.
Emeric Nectoux's insight:

A microservices architecture involves creating software out of many, smaller independent services. Instead of developing applications as a monolithic whole, microservices takes a modular approach, using small pieces that can be re-used and re-purposed for a variety of purposes. It is similar to service-oriented architecture (SOA), and some people consider it to be a more refined version of SOA.

Still, Gartner cautions, “Microservices architecture enables unprecedented agility and scalability, but it's not for everyone. Application leaders responsible for architecture should understand this new design paradigm, its prerequisites and its disruptive impact before determining where, when and whether to use it.”
