It's one of the very first MIT-wide Centers, because people from all sorts of specialties are coming to understand that it is the connections between people that is actually the core problem in making transportation systems work well, in making energy grids work efficiently, and in making financial systems stable. Markets are not just about rules or algorithms; they're about people and algorithms together."

InformationWeek's 2014 US IT Salary Survey showed a growing disparity between what female networking and datacenter professionals are paid compared to their male counterparts.

Guys, what are we going to do about this? The Bureau of Labor Statistics and the InformationWeek 2013 U.S. IT Salary Survey agree that women are losing ground in pay equity. "Women earned $5,000 less in base salary annually than their male counterparts, and $6,000 when you factor bonuses on top of salary. This year, the survey finds that women in those job roles earn $21,000 less in base salary [21% less], and $24,000 less in base salary plus bonuses [29% less]" than male managers in data centers and networking.
