Medical marijuana doctors loses license to practice - The Boston Globe

Medical marijuana doctors loses license to practice - The Boston Globe | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Both doctors certified thousands of patients, working in practices devoted solely to medical marijuana.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
I am a strong supporter of medical marijuana and a strong supporter of legalizing weed, but I am not a strong supporter of irresponsibility. health practitioners who recommend using pot, and especially those who certify patients for its use, have a great responsibility to use judgment and clinical skill, not to become a rubber stamp for those wanting an easy way to obtain their drug. Even if marijuana had been legal in Massachusetts, this physician would have been acting irresponsibly by recommending it to this woman.

How Much Does Marijuana Impact Your Driving?

A New Federal Study Has Answers
Kenneth Weene's insight:

The good news is that alcohol seems to have much greater negative effect than marijuana. The bad news is that pot does have a negative effect on driving. The really bad news is that mixing alcohol and marijuana produces the greatest effect, and many partiers do both. The take-away, don't drive when you're high on anything because the life you save may be some innocent stranger, a good friend, a loved one, or even yourself.

Regular marijuana use bad for teens' brains

Regular marijuana use bad for teens' brains | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Frequent marijuana use can have a significant negative effect on the brains of teenagers and young adults, including cognitive decline, poor attention and memory, and decreased IQ, according to psychologists discussing public health implications of marijuana legalization at the American Psychological Association's 122nd Annual Convention.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

While I support decriminalizing pot, that doesn't mean I think it safe, especially for teens and young kids. Just as tobacco and alcohol should come with warnings and public education, so should marijuana. There is a health price to all substance use, and kids deserve the information necessary to make informed decisions.

Not only is the fruit high in vitamin C, it could be the secret to unlocking marijuana's true potential
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Interestingly, I am allergic to fresh apricots and pot and have a mixed reaction to walnuts and mangoes. Hmm. Anyway, I thought this information my marijuana smoking friends would want to have and personally found it one of those amusing factoids that make life more fun.

Police say 26lb-package likely dropped from smuggler’s aircraft or drone, leaving Arizona couple who handed drugs in to rehouse German Shepherd, Hulk
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I wonder if Hulk can make a claim under his doghouse insurance. Thankfully, nobody was hurt and it sounds like the repairs can be made without to great cost to this family. But, let's get word out on the social media in the hope that the drug runners who are responsible will send Hulk a new chew toy.

Marijuana poses more risks than many realize

Marijuana poses more risks than many realize | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Doctors say they're increasingly fielding questions about the safety of marijuana, as use of the drug rises and more communities consider legalizing it. Here's what we know and don't know about health effects.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Now the educational work about marijuana begins. It's really fairly simple: don't use too much, be aware and don't let yourself become dependent on it, don't give it to kids. Being legal doesn't mean the same as it's safe anymore than alcohol or tobacco or even caffeine are necessarily safe.

Americans Are Smoking More Pot

Americans Are Smoking More Pot | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
The World Drug Report found that as laws in the U.S. have relaxed toward marijuana, prices for the herb have dropped, far more people have begun to partake, and more people have landed in the hospital due to "cannabis-related treatment admissions"
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Yes, legalizing pot will lead to wider use and more people using it unwisely, but over the long run much of that will even out as the once forbidden fruit becomes just another option on the menu of life. Also, consider the decrease in criminal events, police involvements, etc. to say nothing of tax revenues and we have a no-brainer.
