36 Pictures To See Which Muscle You’re Stretching

36 Pictures To See Which Muscle You’re Stretching | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Learn correct technique and the specific muscles you're working with these 34 common stretches and yoga poses.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
My personal concept of exercise is getting from the bed to my computer and the muscles I most stretch have to do with activities I shouldn't discuss in the social media. However, I have many friends who actually try to stay fit and healthy and I thought this might be useful for them. If you must exert yourself, it is a good idea to stretch. Most important of all, just make the stretch to enjoy life.

New NIH guidelines on infants and peanuts may contradict everything you’ve heard before

New NIH guidelines on infants and peanuts may contradict everything you’ve heard before | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Infants at high risk for allergies should be given peanut products when they are as young as 4 months old.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
I grew up on peanut butter, which is surprising since my mother tried to isolate me from just about everything. Of course, in those days people didn't know about peanut allergies, which may explain my exposure to it unlike most grasses, trees, and flowers which she kept me away from until I was four or five and had had time to develop full-scale allergies. I even got to eat peanuts at the circus the couple of times we went. Maybe that was because the Kemp Nut Company was headquartered in our town. But, when at 14 we made our first visit to Florida, she was sure that boiled peanuts would kill us, or in her mind at least turn us into "stupid people." Years later, I tried them and didn't care for them at all. To this day, I love a peanut butter cup candy and if I could eat the bread and sugar in the jam I'd head for the PG&J sandwiches. What about you? Peanut allergies, lover, bleh? `

Running is the Worst Way to Get Fit - Tonic

If you want to be in shape, skip the 10K training and sprint—but don't jog—to the nearest weight room.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
I got to admit my idea of a sprint is the speed with which I get to my coffee in the morning and as for strength training, does lifting a fork filled with steak count? So, I'm no exercise guru, but I thought this so obvious a piece that I wanted to share it. Long periods of running are bad for your body. If you want to exercise, do it the ways that work for a healthier you. Now where did I put the cream?

Kids consume 12% of their calories from fast food, study shows

Kids consume 12% of their calories from fast food, study shows | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Kids now consume 12% of their calories at fast food restaurants, a trend that may contribute to rising rates of childhood obesity.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

When I read this one question kept popping through my head. Why do people think this stuff tastes good? Too much salt, too much sugar, too much fat; I prefer a good salad and fruit; burgers not so much. Have we as a nation taught ourselves to love the wrong tastes? Of course, I'll still go for friend chicken (not from any of the chains) and love greasy tuna from Subway (on a sald not in a sub). Heck, nobody's perfect. So what are your healthy food choices and your guilty pleasures?

How Your Favorite Fast Food Meals Are Changing

How Your Favorite Fast Food Meals Are Changing | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Chains from Taco Bell to Pizza Hut are throwing out the additives and embracing the natural ingredients
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Since I don't eat fast food, this is not terribly important to me personally; but I think it represents a change in the way we think about our food. My question is will this be a fast enough and big enough change to save our food supply from companies like Monsanto that claim they are providing us with the best GMOs and chemicals. It bothers me that many who oppose big-brother government are willing to trust big-brother corporatism.

Child malaria vaccine: Final trials bring hope - BBC News

Child malaria vaccine: Final trials bring hope - BBC News | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Final clinical trials of a malaria vaccine - the first to reach this stage - suggest it could protect one third of children against malaria, according to data published in The Lancet.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

While many Americans have forgotten why vaccines are important, the people of Africa can only pray that this partially effective vaccine will lead the way to one that will give the same kind of protection that those against polio, measles, mumps, and the like are already providing for billions of people. Meanwhile, malaria continues to be the scourge of Africa and tropical countries around the world.

If You Want Better Sleep, Your Bedroom Shouldn’t Lack These 5 Plants

If You Want Better Sleep, Your Bedroom Shouldn’t Lack These 5 Plants | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Stress and anxiety cause most insomnia issues so it’s a good idea to fill your bedroom with these 5 plants due to their ability to soothe the soul.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
I love flowers and their wonderful scents, but I must admit an aversion to sleeping with them. As a child, my mother often put lilac in my room, a pant to which I was terribly allergic. Yes, I know. Anyway, it put me of such scents at night. Years latter when in the south of France, I realized that the wonderful odors in our hotel room were creating a sense of paranoia. During the day, they were fine, but not once I closed my eyes. What a shame. At any rate, hope you have a great night's sleep every night.

10 Benefits of Sleeping Naked You Probably Didn’t Know

10 Benefits of Sleeping Naked You Probably Didn’t Know | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
There are many benefits, physiologically and psychologically, to sleeping naked. Here are just 10 reasons you should be going commando at night.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
I'm not going to ask who sleeps nude, in pjs, in underwear, night gowns, or whatever. Nope, no poll, but feel free to tell us. I just thought this worth sharing as health and wellness information. One thing, however, be sure you keep something close at hand to put on in case of emergency. Last thing you want to do is go downstairs to confront a burglar with nothing but your Smith and Wesson to cover you. And, should their be a fire, do not exit in too full view. The fire department might be too busy taking obscene photos to aim their hoses. Anyway, have a great night's sleep.
