The good, bad and Grinch-worthy: A guide to the weirdest holiday programming for Christmas 2015

The good, bad and Grinch-worthy: A guide to the weirdest holiday programming for Christmas 2015 | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
From "Santas in the Barn" to "All I Got for Christmas Is Brain Surgery," we've got your seasonal tastes covered
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Thankfully with no small children or stuffed animals addicted to gooey television in our home, we will be spared the annual spate of Christmas glop. Of course I recommend reading a good book instead of watching drivel, but if you must, here's a guide to what can laughingly be called the season's offerings. May I coin the word offalings?

From Dumpster to Diva - the story of Punky the Radio Cat. | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it

You never know what life will bring, especially if you are of the feline persuasion.

My first memory was of warmth as I cuddled up to birthmother and suckled a protruding teat. All was blackness, though I was much too young to be aware of the difference of light and dark. It was a coziness and comfort with need of nourishment, and it was wonderful.

Kenneth Weene's insight:

Punky shares some of her personal story, and I bet you'll give it four paws up.

Man imprisoned for failing to provide an Amazon review | NewsBiscuit | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
'We must have sent him four emails asking for a review, but he just ignored them,' said an Amazon spokesman today. 'He hadn't marked the product as a gift, so there was no reason to not provide a review,' he added. Judge Roberts commented when sentencing Billy Askew (24) from Winsford to three months in gaol that: 'it was every on-line shopper's civic duty to provide a review, even if it's clearly horseshit'.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

All right you readers, let's get those reviews up or I'll sic the chicken on you.

Cats still to decide on inside or outside referendum | NewsBiscuit | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
The National Cat Association (NCA) has admitted that there is still no consensus about whether they want the free-market roaming that the garden represents or the warm monetary union offered by the airing cupboard.  A spokes-cat said: 'We didn't expect a swift decision; to be honest, it could be years.  What we will say is that shouting at us will not make it any quicker'. Those in favour of staying indoors have said the deal has been sweetened by their German owner, offering additional squatting rights with any cardboard box, computer keyboard or lap of their choice.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I admit it, I'm a political satire junkie and this is hilarious even if you aren't in the UK and even if you aren't part of the European Market. Rule Britannia, may there always be a dither.

"This Is What They Did For Fun": A Modern-Day Lynching In Mississippi

"This Is What They Did For Fun": A Modern-Day Lynching In Mississippi | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Craig Anderson was headed home to celebrate his birthday with his partner. Instead, he became the victim of a brutal and violent form of racism that many in Mississippi had thought long gone.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Yes, this happened five years ago, but the wounds are still there. Yes, justice was served, if you don't count the kid who is growing up without a parent and the man who has lost his loving partner. The racial hatred that festers in this country is a far greater threat than the actions of terrorists from far off countries. It appalls me that none of the family members of this gang of thugs have tried to take any responsibility or show concern. They cry for the hooligans who committed not just murder but torture but they offer not a finger to the living victims. This was a good and fine man that was killed and we as a nation must bear the responsibility for yet another crime from our hate-filled history. Until we all recognize that responsibility and as a nation take responsibility, then those of us who do must keep shouting that Black lives matter.

Kenneth Weene's insight:

If we are going to fight terrorism, let's start with the terrorists who are hiding behind a badge throughout America. Sure there are lots of decent cops, but decency isn't enough. They have to help root out those who work from hatred and a need to demean their fellow citizens.

A story about God

A story about God | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it

“Worthless!” The trumpeting blast of Jehovah’s voice set the bowls of manna jumping. Waves of mead swished from goblets. Two unsuspecting seraphim were knocked from their precarious perches atop great golden harps.

In the aftermath, quiet reigned in the massive hall. Every saintly and angelic eye was turned towards the All Mighty.

Finally, His trembling son asked, “What’s wrong, Dad?”

Kenneth Weene's insight:

Laughter is god's way of praying to us.

Christian Anti-Masturbation’s Mascot Arrested For Public Masturbation At Sea World - CBS News

Christian Anti-Masturbation’s Mascot Arrested For Public Masturbation At Sea World - CBS News | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
San Diego, CA — In an ironic twist of a fate, a mascot for a Christian anti-masturbation group was arrested today for masturbating in public. The mascot, along with his organization, Stop Masturbation Now, recently finished a federally funded 31-city nationwide school tour which they claim focused on educating children about the dangers and consequences of masturbation.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

And in what crazed world does the federal government fund an anti-masturbation drive? Oh yes, in a world where the bizzaro Christian right gets to determine sex education policies. So once again we all get to laugh at the irony and the idiocy.

Gregg Wallace fixed grin device cures depression, provokes violence | NewsBiscuit

Gregg Wallace fixed grin device cures depression, provokes violence | NewsBiscuit | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
‘Why the long face?’ is a question that may soon be relegated to the past thanks to the release of the incredible Gregg Wallace fixed-grin device. Fitting neatly and invisibly into the corners of the mouth ‘The Wallace’ claims to turn all frowns upside down in a nano-second. Anger management specialists and medical practitioners are hailing the device as an amazing alternative to anti-depressants and expensive courses of therapy. ‘Valium, librium and mogadon once seemed to provide the perfect answer to stress,’ said Dr Hilda Radcliffe from her Harley Street clinic, ‘but The Wallace comes without any of the typical side-affects, such as altering the chemistry of the brain and turning people into vegetables. However, it is not without its problems and patients do need to take care where and when they wear it.’
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Those of us who deal with or write about mental health issues need to laugh at the whole topic. Personally, I loved this bit of satire. If you need to put mental illness into perspective, read "Memoirs From the Asylum," a book that will make you laugh, cry, and think. You can find it on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Memoirs-From-Asylum-Kenneth-Weene/dp/0984421955 Remember that laughter is god's way of praying to us.

Hungary's Orban suspects left-wing plot in migrant crisis

Hungary's Orban suspects left-wing plot in migrant crisis | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
The tide of migrants coming to Europe from the Middle East and Africa may be part of a left-wing plot to pack the continent with sympathetic voters, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has told a Swiss magazine. Orban's anti-immigrant rhetoric and the border fences he has erected to block the wave of people fleeing war and poverty have made him a winner at home from a crisis that has divided Europe. "Migration is seen as an opportunity ... All indications and experience suggest that the overwh
Kenneth Weene's insight:

As refuges from around the world seek asylum, there are going to be nativists who see them as a threat. Few countries have a real history of diversity. The U.S. is (except for a few surviving Native Americans) a nation of immigrants and yet even here we have nativisits like Trump. And history has taught the people of Eastern Europe to fear the hordes who carried their black standard north from the Ottoman Empire. While I too feel for those displaced from the internecine wars of places like Syria, Iraq, Libya, and South Sudan, I do not condemn the people of Europe who want to protect themselves from an overwhelming influx and the challenge this new mass migration. In the end, my only conclusion is that homo sapiens suck.

Garden Bridge will include ‘dogging area’ confirms Heatherwick | NewsBiscuit

Garden Bridge will include ‘dogging area’ confirms Heatherwick | NewsBiscuit | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Garden Bridge designer Thomas Heatherwick has confirmed there will be a specially designated area given over to people addicted to exhibitionist sexual activity in open public places.  To start with the sex facility will only be open at night, but once it becomes notorious it is hoped the area will attract day-time doggers too. Although the activity is more commonly associated with woodland parks and rural areas Mr. Heatherwick said the vast majority of Londoners do not own cars and it was only fair this was taken into account when planning ahead for bridge activities.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

We of Tralfamadore salute this royal effort. It is assumed that appropriate viewing areas will be provided similar to those at the better zoos. It is assumed that Her Majesty is not amused.

Crop Insurance Subsidies Prove Cutting Budget Is Easier Said Than Done

Crop Insurance Subsidies Prove Cutting Budget Is Easier Said Than Done | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Determined to rein in spending, Congress celebrated agreement on a plan to save trillions. Yet one of the few cuts actually passed now faces repeal.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I am not a budget hawk, quite the opposite. I believe in government's role in ordering and organizing the country's life and economy. However, I think it is time that the American people recognize that much of what the government does is to subsidize insurance companies by guaranteeing their levels of profitability. If the companies can't accept risk, then they are not insurance companies and this becomes a form of corporate socialism as opposed to what should be the intent, what Bernie Sanders has called democratic socialism, the encouragement and protection of the individual to allow taking risk and life itself reasonably safe for us all. So maybe it's time to recognize the right wing Republican calls for the shrinking of government for what they are, a prioritization of companies over people, and not make believe that there is anything about the individual—farmer or entrepreneur or just citizen—in their intentions.

In Renovation of Golf Club, Donald Trump Also Dressed Up History

In Renovation of Golf Club, Donald Trump Also Dressed Up History | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Historians say a plaque installed by Mr. Trump at a golf course on the Potomac River commemorates a Civil War event that never happened.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

The following quote from the story says it all about what's terribly wrong with the GOP today, that a concern for personal privilege and comfort is more important than any concern with truth:

"One member, a former history professor and a co-author of four Civil War novels, called the monument merely “strange.”

Much more important, he said, were the much-needed renovations Mr. Trump made to the golf courses.

“I am not going to lead a demonstration over this,” said the member, Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker. “It’s a country club with a golf course, for Pete’s sake.”"

A reflection of American history

A reflection of American history | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it

Growing up just outside of Boston, I was immersed in American history, especially from the Revolution. Down the road were Lexington and Concord, Faneuil Hall and Bunker Hill. This was where it had all begun. I dreamed of visiting Independence Hall in Philadelphia and the National Archive in Washington, DC. In the Archive I would see it, the real document, the Declaration of Independence.

Is there an American right to impose one's values on others?

Maggie Tails: Uncle in Vermont by Kenneth Weene

Maggie Tails: Uncle in Vermont by Kenneth Weene | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it

She loved traveling, delighting in hotels and particularly enjoying room service breakfasts: scrambled eggs not too firm or a cheddar omelet, a side of bacon, toast buttered and strawberry jam, hash browns with ketchup, and coffee—light and sweet. Uncle, our twelve-pound terrier-poodle mix, had little use for me, but she did appreciate my serving her hotel breakfast. Another thing about Uncle and hotels stays: that was the only time she would tolerate a leash. Yes, she did understand the rules that people imposed even if she knew they were stupid and surely didn’t apply to a dog who knew exactly where to go and what to do without being told.

Kenneth Weene's insight:

Thanks from Uncle and myself to Maggie Adkins for sharing this post which I hope will tickle dog lovers everywhere.
