On Bastoy prison island in Norway, the prisoners, some of whom are murderers and rapists, live in conditions that critics brand 'cushy' and 'luxurious'. Yet it has by far the lowest reoffending rate in Europe.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
There is one other point to keep in mind, the homogeneity of the population of Norway. I'm not sure that this same approach would work as well in a more diverse population like the U.S.,at least not with some retooling. However, helping criminals to find their self worth has to be better than telling them that they are animals. Delete the scoop?
