Wintertime depression has long been attributed to low light exposure. New data find no correlation between the two

IMHO, most of the seasonal affective disorder I saw when I lived in the Northeast was a function of the stressors that came to a head during the winter, for example weather, Christmas, and children dealing with school pressures. Spring gave a sense of relief to come not because of the sunlight but because the weather would be getting better, Christmas and its great bills was passed, and school was coming to an end. Oh, and let's not forget winter commuting. Mood is so much a function of the pressures under which we live, and at least in Boston and New York that pressure was clearly seasonal.
