A robot named IRB 2400 (pictured) has applied for a Screen Actors Guild card. Membership benefits include health care, pension, and competitive rate mortgages.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I've been thinking a lot about the ethical issues of robots. At what point do we consider them as living beings? Calling all fans of "Short Circuit" to contribute your notion of what it means to say, "I'm alive." No Turing criteria to be considered.

We spoke to seven scholars and futurists about the singularity and the uncertain future of religion.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

For my part, I believe that true AI will only be developed when the crucial balance of inhibitory circuits and excitatory circuits is found. Also, these circuits will have to integrate multiple banks of purposed nodes so that different types of knowing can be simulated, i.e. emotional, active, perceptive, verbal. and vectored (the interconnection of occurrences which is referenced in this article). Still, they are getting closer and that's exciting and terrifying at the same time.

The Mathematics of Murder: Should a Robot Sacrifice Your Life to Save Two? | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it

Your robot, the one you paid good money for, has chosen to kill you. Better that, its collision-response algorithms decided, than a high-speed, head-on collision with a smaller, non-robotic compact. There were two people in that car, to your one. The math couldn’t be simpler.

Kenneth Weene's insight:

What are the ethics of robots? What ethical issues do the builders of robots have to consider. This article is a great starting point for that discussion.
