Christians Couples File For Divorce En-Masse To Defy Gay Marriage Ruling

Christians Couples File For Divorce En-Masse To Defy Gay Marriage Ruling | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
As hundreds of homosexual couples applied for marriage licenses on Monday morning, dozens of Christian couples simultaneously filed for divorce.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I wonder how they'll feel when issues like taxes and insurance pop up. And do they plan to co-habit, live in sin? Sounds like the kid is holding her breath again. That'll teach us.

More 20-Something Americans Are Staying Single, Report Says

More 20-Something Americans Are Staying Single, Report Says | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
While more 30-somethings are opting to live together instead of marrying
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Marriage, like religion, is falling out of favor and is being replaced by personal commitment in the form of co-habitation. In part, at least, this is due to women being more committed to taking care of themselves and their children economically and to not being dependent on men. It also, in part, reflects that decreased interest in formal religion. Since the far has been emphasizing the religious sacramental side of marriage in its attack on GAY marriage, that has to make the marriage ceremony less attractive to young adults who think of themselves as spiritual or even atheist. At any rate, this is an interesting trend, one which will make many prospective grandparents uncomfortable.

4 scientifically proven ways to be a better spouse

4 scientifically proven ways to be a better spouse | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
A wealth of research and a touch of game theory can do wonders for your marriage. Here are a few simple pointers
Kenneth Weene's insight:

The writer of this piece and her spouse are clearly headed for marriage counseling or maybe divorce. She thinks she can change him. Ha! The real success is learning to laugh at one another and with one another. Compromise can be surrender disguised. Reinforcing the behaviors we like, while an effective strategy for increasing the frequency of those behaviors, will not lead to improvement in all those other areas. Another key to success, honest and assertive communication about ones own needs and a mutual recognition that both persons' needs are important.

Do Happy Couples Masturbate?

Do Happy Couples Masturbate? | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
When masturbation meets cohabitation.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

It is a good thing for two lovers —married or no— to be open and honest with each other. Sexual drive should not become a stumbling block in relationships but rather an enhancing of those relationships. Assuredly, honesty about masturbation is better than secrecy and perhaps in addition to solitary activity, mutual masturbation should be an integral part of a couple's many ways to enjoy.

Federal judge strikes down part of Utah's ban on polygamy

Federal judge strikes down part of Utah's ban on polygamy | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
SALT LAKE CITY -- A federal judge declared a portion of Utah's polygamy ban unconstitutional late Wednesday, essentially decriminalizing polygamy in the state. U.S. District Court Judge Clark Waddo...
Kenneth Weene's insight:

I have no problem with consenting adults entering into multiple person relationships which are in their eyes marriages. I do not think government benefits, such as social security, can reasonably be shared over multiple spouses. Also, and this is the biggie, I don't think the use of welfare to support those not in the "primary legal" relationship should be allowed. Obviously, the consenting adult bit is very important; no forced child marriages. But multiple spouses? Why not?

The Single Best Piece of Marriage Advice Ever Given

The Single Best Piece of Marriage Advice Ever Given | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
What to tell newlyweds
Kenneth Weene's insight:

While this is a lovely single piece of advice, it is not the one I have given for years. My advice, "Find something at which you can both laugh and spend your day in good humor. Find something at which you can both cry and spend your day in shared feelings. Find something to do together and spend the day with hands sharing work. Find something to love in one another and spend the day reminding your partner of that love."

Oklahoma GOP wants to restrict marriage to people of faith (actually it's one idiot, but who can resist the story?)

Oklahoma GOP wants to restrict marriage to people of faith (actually it's one idiot, but who can resist the story?) | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Atheists need not apply: A bill proposed by Oklahoma Republicans would restrict the right to marry to people of faith, and would mandate all marriage licenses be approved by a member of the clergy.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

Let us praise the endless entertainment value of right-wing stupidity. Besides the obvious reality that there are religious groups that recognize same-sex marriages, thus making this a farce, it would wreak havoc on the family law system and its protections for children and spouses.

Why 25% of Millennials Will Never Get Married

Why 25% of Millennials Will Never Get Married | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
New study shows that more people under 35 will be single forever
Kenneth Weene's insight:

One thing they didn't include in the research was the effect of having parents who divorced versus parents who had stayed in marriage. My guess is that is very powerful as a moderating influence. Another interesting question for those who are not looking to get married: do they want to have children? My guess is that attitudes towards having children or putting off having children is another major moderating factor. But certainly one thing that is very key is the fact that today's young men are much less interested in holding jobs and more interested in whatever will be the new "homesteading."
