A federal judge has ordered a Kentucky county clerk to jail on Thursday after she refused to issue marriage licenses because her religion opposes same-sex unions, her attorneys said.

I may offend some with my reaction, but when my wife, who was on her computer, announced this to me, I shouted, "Praise the Lord."There should be no room for bigotry— however clothed in religion— in the performance of public office.

The Supreme Court has decided that Americans have a constitutional right to privacy in the personal information they carry on smartphones, ruling unanimously that police may not search such devices without a warrant from a magistrate.

A good call by SCOTUS. Next we need to make warrants more difficult to get. At this point, that protection seems to be eroding as part of the madness of the so-called war on drugs.

Some of these suits make good sense. I always had a problem with Shirley Temple's suing Graham Greene. He did not defame her only made a clear statement about the existence of pedophilia. If anyone should have sued him it should have been the movie producers who chose to make the young star so alluring. But the kid who as tasered by a cop for refusing to help wash his police car. Well, that's another story.

Sadly, nobody raised this issue in the court hearings over Citizen's United or Hobby Lobby. I would love to have heard Justice Scalia try to integrate his rather basic and fundamental Christianity with that problem. Would he maintain that there are two classes of individuals? That might be a sticky wicket for him.
