Terry Pratchett's unpublished works crushed by steamroller - BBC News

Terry Pratchett's unpublished works crushed by steamroller - BBC News | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
It is thought up to 10 incomplete novels were destroyed, as per the author's final wishes.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
Like almost any author, except Salinger, I'm a publicity whore. Getting one's name known means selling books. However, I do think that pimping oneself from beyond the grave is a bit much. If he had that many unfinished novels, my guess is the guy had pretty much lost it anyway. Still, he was darn good in his day. At any rate, I hope you'll visit http://www.kennethweene.com and check out my books since I'm still alive and you don't want to wait for me to try and steamroller you into buying, do you?

The Brief, Tumultuous Reign Of An Erstwhile Best-Seller

The Brief, Tumultuous Reign Of An Erstwhile Best-Seller | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
For a while Thursday, Lani Sarem's debut, Handbook for Mortals, stood as the reigning best-seller in young adult literature. Within hours, it had been removed from the list entirely. What happened?
Kenneth Weene's insight:
I've been approached by companies offering to boost my sales numbers by using my money to buy copies of one of my books. They said it was a form of marketing. LOL. Sure I want to sell books but what would I do with hundreds of copies of one of my own books? I know, I could take Tales From the Dew Drop Inne around to AA conventions or better yet Times to Try the Soul of Man to Mafia meetings and hawk them to recover my costs.

At any rate, you can get your copies of my great works by going to Amazon while I keep writing the next one. Here's the link, just for you,

How many books did you read this summer?

How many books did you read this summer? | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it

Remember how great it was when you learned to read your own chapter books; it still is that great.

Kenneth Weene's insight:
How many books did you read this summer? If you're like most people, you maybe read one and dipped into a couple of others. So many things to do; right? Of course, most of them didn't get done either. Here's a suggestion just for you, set aside some time every day to read. Make sure it's not too much time, but enough to relax and enjoy. Start with one good book and finish it before you jump to the next; no piles of books to waste your time rifling through. If you use an e-reader, same rule, one book at a time. I suggest starting with something short or perhaps an anthology so you can have a sense of success right off. And, of course, most importantly, make sure you read on of mine.

The words of the 8th-century Saint Bede are among those that have been found by detecting iron, copper and zinc – constituents of medieval ink
Kenneth Weene's insight:
I love this. Being able to read ancient texts and better yet not having to tear apart the wonderful old books in which they have been hidden. Which raises this great question about the distant future: How many people then will have access to the deathless prose of this great author? Well, you can make sure that your descendants do by laying in a supply of his work.   http://www.kennethweene.com

She loved traveling, delighting in hotels and particularly enjoying room service breakfasts: scrambled eggs not too firm or a cheddar omelet, a side of bacon, toast buttered and strawberry jam, hash browns with ketchup, and coffee—light and sweet. Uncle, our twelve-pound terrier-poodle mix, had little use for me, but she did appreciate my serving her hotel breakfast.

If you love dogs, you have to get to know Uncle. Please enjoy this true bit of my life. Comment on the blog and you may win a copy of Tales From the Dew Drop Inne.

Fifty Authors from Fifty States: Beans and Cod by Kenneth Weene

Fifty Authors from Fifty States: Beans and Cod by Kenneth Weene | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it

“You’re going to boarding school,” my father proclaimed. It was December 1954. I was thirteen, in ninth grade and not really ready for this dramatic announcement. I was not, however, completely surprised. My father didn’t like me; that had been amply demonstrated the summer before. I could not forgive his rages and my multiple humiliations. From everything he said, it was obvious he could not remember any of those horrible episodes. Any references to the summer’s events met a look of incomprehension.

Kenneth Weene's insight:

I seldom right non-fiction, but I wanted to offer a different take on my "home state" of Massachusetts. Hope you find it interesting. By the way, if you comment, you may win a free copy of one of my books.

What were Obama's favorite childhood books?

What were Obama's favorite childhood books? | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
On a recent visit to a Washington library, Obama told students that he doesn't have much time for 'fun' reading these days. But he also eagerly shared the titles that he enjoyed as a boy.
Kenneth Weene's insight:

What, not one of my books on his list?! I wonder if I can send him a couple. I think he'd enjoy "Broody New Englander." Oh, "Memoirs From the Asylum" might give him ideas about how Congress functions. Then "Tales From the Dew Drop Inne" might help him understand the GOP. Of course, "Times to Try the Soul of Man" would be a great pick if he really cares about what the CIA and NSA might be up to. I'll leave "Widow's Walk" out, the Secret Service might decide I was a threat.

As an author, I know there are no quick ways to writer fame. Of course, it's easy enough if one is already famous. Star athletes, politicians, even big-time criminals will find their books on the best-seller list. But it isn't that easy for authors, we have to scrap for each sale.

Can't Buy Me Love (Of Reading) | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it
Summer's in full swing, and parents are trying all kinds of things to keep their kids reading. Here's a guide to what works and what doesn't.
Kenneth Weene's insight:
The best way to get kids to read is to read with them. Discussing a book brings it to life. Also, reading the same book and talking about it makes the kid feel more adult as well as helping them to learn new concepts and more difficult vocabulary that they might not master on their own. That said, might I suggest that you visit http://www.kennethweene.com to find some great books, stories, and essay to share with tweens and teens, as well as good books for your own enjoyment.

All Things That Matter Press: Times To Try The Soul Of Man

All Things That Matter Press: Times To Try The Soul Of Man | enjoy yourself | Scoop.it

What do an overweight stripper, the CIA, corruption in New York City, the Israeli Mossad, ancient Inca civilization, terrorism, political intrigue, mad dashes across America, and a waste-case of a teenager have in common? They are the ingredients of this action-packed crime and coming-of-age novel. Much of this story is based on true events, perhaps too true to be believed. Guaranteed to make you think and probably to shudder as you relive 9/11.

"In his book Times To Try The Soul Of Man, Kenneth Weene paints a vivid portrait of the peripatetic freelance journalist peering from the outskirts of mass corruption at an American horror show." (Anthony Flacco - NY Times best selling author)

Kenneth Weene's insight:

This is a book that really sounds worth reading. Oh, wait a second, I wrote it. I hope you'll want to read it.
