This article shows how vocabulary notebooks can be integrated into a course. There are number of exercises given to help students practice and review the words they are learning. One issue I find with using notebooks is that, unless students are given a list of high frequency words to choose from, they tend to have trouble choosing words that are frequent. So I believe that students need to be taught how they can check if words are frequent or less frequent.
