Voxy - Learn a language from life | quick 2 english | Scoop.it

We don’t believe learning should be based on static content, memorizing verb charts, grammar rules, or learning vocabulary words out of context. That’s why we create engaging exercises with authentic language used by native speakers. We don't write lessons for you, we curate real-world discourse and turn it into lessons adapted to your language level.

Voxy looks like a really great all round product to get students listening, reading and speaking. You can access it through any device, but the mobile app looks really great and it's one of the first I've seen that really seems to be drawing on the multimedia capabilities of mobile and tablet devices for language learning.

From face-to-face teaching to online teaching: pedagogical transitions

From face-to-face teaching to online teaching: pedagogical transitions | quick 2 english | Scoop.it

As higher education has embraced online education as a way to reduce costs, increase flexibility, and enhance access to students it is important to gain an understanding of the perceptions of instructors moving into online teaching. This study found a change in the beliefs and teaching presence of the instructors from their initial resistance to online teaching to an approach which is mindful of the student experience and promotes a dialogical approach to online learning.

There are more benefits from implementing a blended learning approach than keeping the traditional teaching style; however, before incorporating online teaching into our classrooms, there are several factors teachers should take into account. Here is an interesting perspective offered by the University of Southern Queensland you might consider for the pedagogical transition.

Research Methods in Second Language Psycholinguistics

Research Methods in Second Language Psycholinguistics | quick 2 english | Scoop.it

Addressing a rapidly growing interest in second language research, this hands-on text provides students and researchers with the means to understand and use current methods in psycholinguistics. With a focus on the actual methods, designs, and techniques used in psycholinguistics research as they are applied to second language learners, this book offers the practical guidance readers need to determine which method is the best for what they wish to investigate as well as the tools that will enhance their research.

Each methods chapter is written by a leading expert who describes, discusses, and comments on how a method is used and what its strengths and limitations are for second language research. These chapters follow a specific format to ensure cohesion and a predictable structure across all chapters. The chapters also inform the novice researcher on such key issues as ease of use, costs, potential pitfalls, and other related matters, each of which impact decisions that researchers make about the paths they take.

NMC Horizon Report > 2014 Higher Education Preview

NMC Horizon Report > 2014 Higher Education Preview | quick 2 english | Scoop.it

There is an overarching sense in the academic world that research is first, while teaching is an obligation that must be performed. Because of this way of thinking, efforts to implement effective pedagogies are lacking. Adjunct professors and students feel the brunt of this challenge, as teaching-only contracts are underrated and underpaid, and learners must accept the outdated teaching styles of the university’s primary researchers.
