Reese Fluharty's insight:

This scoop.it page has been the most beneficial web site that I have visited this year. Thanks to this scoop.it I have applied to very many Washington State scholarships that give a large change of getting money for college. With the help of this web site I can potentially save thousands of dollars just by living in the state of Washington. One scholarship that I had my eye on is Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Essay Contest Scholarship. I believe that i can write an essay about this topic that can earn me this scholarship and help me save money in college. To enter in this scholarship you need to plan to attend college after high school, have a 2.5 GPA or higher, and write a 600-1000 word essay about a personal encounter with drug or alcohol abuse. There are many, many more scholarships that I will apply for from this web site; overall I am very glad that I found a list of good scholarships for Washington State.

Four reasons to choose community college

Four reasons to choose community college | Engineering | Scoop.it
For many students, attempting to get a four-year degree ends up getting them heavily into debt and little else. Here are four reasons community colleges can offer a much bigger bang for the buck.

Reese Fluharty's insight:

This article brings up many valid points on why community college is a good alternative to going to a university. I found that the average debt for graduating seniors surprisingly high at $23,000, for going to a university. Rather than being in debt for years out of college, I rather earn a degree from a Community College and save a bunch of money. Even more surprising is that fact that 13% of young adults are unemployed. I would not like to graduate college with a huge debt and end up unemployed, not being able to pay off my debt. I agree with this article in that school counselors should steer students toward a community college path. With the low cost, great location, wide enrollment, and the high pay off, I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to begin college at a community college. I believe that starting off my college career at a community college and then transferring over to a four year college will be a great money saving alternative to going to a four year university right out of high school.

Reese Fluharty's insight:

This article gave me a glance at my future in chemical engineering. Before reading this article i had no idea about how large this field of study actually was. A degree in chemical engineering can take me from space research to mining, with a wide variety of jobs in between. Also this article had informed me of all the government organizations that I could work at with this degree, from National Fertilizers Limited to Coal India Limited there are a great amount of places this degree can take me. From this article I have also learned that the entry level salary for a chemical engineer is from $50,000 to $60,000 a year and with 5 years of experience can earn $85,000. Overall I think that Chemical engineering would be a great carrier option for me to be successful in.
