Inspired by how Professor Michael Sandel conducts such engaging lectures even in such a huge. In my opinion, it is always not easy to be interactive especially when you have hundreds of students in your lecture.

Remember that first 20 minutes is crucial! If you cannot attract students' attention in the first 20 minutes it is less likely to get the attention later!

"Know them, Challenge Them and Liberate Them": Three main strategies to follow. "Let them show off their skills".
James Ser's curator insight, January 25, 2013 4:44 AM

Another inspiring read about teaching in lectures. Professor Timothy Bresnahan has his way towards his students. He advocated "You want your students to be active; you've got to be a little passive" and a three part strategy: Know them. Challenge them. Liberate them. Firstly, I learnt to know my students' names, ask them questions and let them have a go in presenting their work. This is something I will try out in my own teaching.
