I've hear many educators state:  "if we want to know how well we did, we need to assess one year AFTER".  The long-term retention benefits of PBL are intriguing.  Indeed..........we must determine what is needed to make it work.

I personally think that PBL allows students to take control over their own learning and that this kind of pedagogy should be implemented regularly within the classroom as it suits more students learning styles.

Agreed. We run an amazing, months-long PBL project for our freshmen that culminates in a community-celebrated authentic assessment.
