5 Brilliant Music Videos Created By Students-How Engaging!

5 Brilliant Music Videos Created By Students-How Engaging! | Engagement Based Teaching and Learning | Scoop.it

Bringing classical music to students is not always easy. Except when you incorporate the hottest pop artists into it. Then students and kids around the world will be more than happy to listen.

At least that’s the idea behind Collective Cadenza (CDZA), a group that invents “musical video experiments” that mashup today’s hits with the classics of, well, classical music. That’s the idea behind most of the videos. Others are just plain fun to listen to and watch.

Visible Thinking: Connect, Extend Challenge Routine

Visible Thinking: Connect, Extend Challenge Routine | Engagement Based Teaching and Learning | Scoop.it

I am planning a lesson for next week.  I think I will use the Connect, Extend and Challenge routine after our conversation around relationships.  The routine helps students make connections between new ideas and prior knowledge. It also encourages them to reflect upon ongoing questions, puzzles and difficulties as they think about what they are learning.

Engaging Staff In PL: EMBED Technology and Thinking Routines

Engaging Staff In PL: EMBED Technology and Thinking Routines | Engagement Based Teaching and Learning | Scoop.it

A discussion today regarding professional learning for staff:  "When do we teach technology?  When do we teach how to teach higher thinking skills?"

MODEL it!  EMBED it in the PL!

We will be leading staff from our county through a rich conversation about student engagement, motivation and relationships this week.  Technology as a vehicle for learning will be woven throughout the day.  BYOD is expected.  We will have loaners, if needed.  We will walk them through the process for signing up with Edmodo,  and using both  PollEverywhere and TodaysMeet.

Additionally, we will be using many of the visible thinking routines from Cultures of Thinking.  We will be explicit about this, leading staff to the Visible Thinking website to show where the lessons came from.  For more information:  http://www.pz.harvard.edu/vt/visiblethinking_html_files/03_ThinkingRoutines/03d_UnderstandingRoutines.html

You can use these two fabulous vehicles for learning while you deepening the thinking about content!

Visible Thinking: 3.2.1 Bridge Routine

This routine can be used when students are developing understanding of a concept over time. It
may be a concept that they know a lot about in one context but instruction will focus their
learning in a new direction, or it may be a concept about which students have only informal
knowledge. Whenever new information is gained, bridges can be built between new ideas and
prior understanding. The focus is on understanding and connecting one’s thinking, rather than
pushing it toward a specific outcome.

I will be using next week during a section about motivating reluctant learners.
