The Binder Conundrum

The Binder Conundrum | Engagement Based Teaching and Learning | Scoop.it
Mary Perfitt-Nelson's insight:

This is a picture of the duct-taped planner owned by a very bright kid who was accepted at prestigious engineering schools around the country.  It's a mess, yes!

Proof, to me, that the organization of the binder has zero to do with much.

Assigning points to kids who organize it the way that works for the teacher does not do much to help kids figure out how to keep organized.  This would only work if  they thought  exactly like the teacher  does (and they most likely do not).

Another option would be to have them figure out a system .  Allow for changes

. The bottom line:  if our goal is that they HAVE and USE an organization  system, it must be created by them.  It will fail, otherwise.
