Engagement Based Teaching and Learning

I have not read an article specifically about giving explanations before!  This one give ten great tips to ponder when we are attempting to explain to others.   May favorite is the last:  "check for understanding"!  

I think the issue raised in this article, again, is that we must always know our purpose for everything we do.  Indeed, design thinking could be used in a canned approach, inappropriately.  This is true, only if people design lessons without understanding and clarifying the purpose from the start.  

Tremendous way to keep kids hopefully engaged:  the chance to master,and improve ; learn from mistakes. 

 

I also see that there is a need to TEACH expectations OFTEN so kids understand what is expected of them.

Alfie highlights and discusses 10 controversies that exist.  Despite knowing better, we seem to ignore these truths.

The quality of education improves.Nice entry, Jackie.  I am encouraged and hope this is heard.  The students have so very much to say.  How often do we really ask them what they need?

Early childhood and elementary have this nailed, mostly!

I've learned more, in this manner, than ever since leaving grad school.  

Interesting....we don't like low level thinking/learning, but many are concerned technology is interfering with low level thinking/learning. Hmm.  The article states that "googling" is actually a brain work-out.  Add time to reflect and synthesize the low-level learning to create and you are onto something.  If you know your purpose, tech is a vehicle to take you to creation more quickly.
