What is the goal? 

 

An always-on (24 x 7 x 365) power supply that is inexpensive to produce, can be bulk produced with readily available materials, can be manufactured in any nation using 1950′s or earlier technology, and has a working lifespan greater than 20 years.

 

The system consists of six main components:

Solar thermal cells for gathering energy.An insulated thermal mass for storing the energy (dirt or water).A heat radiator for disposing of waste heat.An LTD Stirling engine for generating energy.A flow controller for for fluid flow, preventing energy loss from the system, and increasing efficiency.An inverter to connect to the grid and convert DC power from the generator to AC usable in your house and power grid.

Each component is designed to be as inexpensive, modular, easily replaceable, and mass producible  as possible.

 

Comparing the current cost of energy at ~$100 USD per MWh to a system based on a redesign of a 100 – 200 year old technology shows that sub $20 USD per MWh energy is possible with technology available today. It also shows that renewable energy can be far cheaper than fossil fuels with a little creativity.

I have just one problem with these innovations: reliability and learning cost. It is not easy to build a system like this that integrates five different systems.

Low tech but definitely doable and able to produce electric energy for a house way cheaper than what we currently buy from the power companies.

The most difficult component seems to be the Sterling engine. For anyone who's not a technically trained lover of those things, it can be challenging. Also, getting all of those components to work together properly.

But it should be possible to find a local mechanic who can cobble together such a system and install it/maintain it for you for a little outlay.

Still in prototype stage but will soon be commercialised. Each such generator can supply electricity for 12 western homes. I personally think the design is a bit awkward. A better option, in my opinion, could be fixed frame, vortex based generator.

China takes lead in 3D printing. Soon, people are going to forget conventional construction system. The machine uses CAD to 'print' a structure. It can even reuse materials from a demolished structure. Uses 80% less labour with much material savings. It is completely safe and environment friendly.

Some of the smartest innovations are occurring in our food system. From regenerating soil health to organic management methods. Farmers are going back to the basics and achieving record yields, never achieved under conventional industrial model. The smartest ones I have seen are: remineralisation [improving across the board mineral balance of soil], attention to TCEC, monitoring, using heirloom seeds and natural hybrids, green manuring, etc. These methods are low cost, need much less irrigation water and environment friendly.

PM Narendra Modi started the canal top solar generators. Now a private firm in collaboration with a Kerala college and Ministry for Renewable Energy Systems is putting up a pilot project of 50 MW. India receives 300 days of sunlight, hence solar generation is suitable. It will help reduce and eliminate the monopolistic control of power generation and distribution companies. AND, solar and wind can be combined. Recall that after Fukushima, China went back to the drawing board but in two years to March 2013, she added 19,000MW of Wind power to its supply grid while during the same period Manmohan Singh, then PM of India, in a secret deal with Sarkozy, awarded 60 billion dollar worth of nuclear business to the dubious French Company AREVA. Their so called advanced nuclear plant in Finland is not only behind schedule but with immense cost overrun.

This is a story from 2006 from EAST. EAST stands for "Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak". It seeks to explore infinite and clean energy resources of nuclear fusion. The test run was successful. Commercial models are likely to cost 1/15 to 1/20th the cost of equivalent reactor capacity. This is an excellent technology and has the potential to resolve energy crisis. Recall that five countries have done much research into fusion technology. These are Russia, China, India, France and USA. The first reports came out in 1985-86. For some reason, India did not pursue this attractive technology. Instead it opted for Coal, hydro and nuclear. Now, the Chinese are leading the field, possibly in collaboration with Russia.

We are all being scammed by energy companies, around the world. It is worth knowing how. For example, residents of Bombay pay electricity rate that is even higher than the rate charged in the USA while in neighbouring Goa the highest rate is flat Rs 3 per unit, one of the lowest. The Discoms in both states source electricity from the same national grid. The Discoms are the centre of racketeering.

 

Over a dozen innovations exist-tested, tried and scalable-that can help achieve 100 miles per gallon for average passenger cars but the automobile industry refuses to adopt these simple innovations. At least half a dozen tested and working models exist for distributed energy source; one can install these devices in the garage and generate almost free electricity.

 

There are about 30 articles in the list, each about a successful launch.

What, if? The Western banks and currency speculators knocked the Ruble down that is hurting Russian economy, eroding savings, etc, etc. That is what the mainstream media is regurgitating. What if Russian chess players anticipated it and played along, allowing Ruble to crash? Russian economic fundamentals are sound. Russia had been moving away from dollar and working on gold backed Ruble since 2006-07. So who loses? What if Russia now mops up Rubles in the hands of Western Banks and exchanges it against its dollar holding? Majority of Russian banks are private, have inter-connectedness with Western Banks and they have colluded in this currency manipulation. What happens then?

Sun rays have UV A, B and C. C is blocked out by earth's ozone layer, hence life forms are not used to it. This was used to create Xenex. Switched on in a hospital room, it eliminates all germs with pulses of UV-C within 5 minutes.

For example, 60 percent of India is underlain by salty water -- and much of that area is not served by an electric grid that could run conventional reverse-osmosis desalination plants. Simple technology, that will change the way Indians have approached the problem of safe drinking water for all. Note that the research was funded by Jain Irrigation Systems, an Indian company that builds and installs solar-power systems, and sponsored by the Tata Center for Technology and Design at MIT. Just one small point in the article with which I differ. India's water problem is not because shortage of water; it is because of Government's mismanagement of water resources.

Nice little innovation. Go to this simple graphic on national debt by countries. The figures are given in local currency as well as US dollar. For example India's per capita debt is USD756 while that of the USA is 57,004, i.e. 75 times greater than India's. Other data include: total debt, total interest, interest payable per second, GDP, Debt as % of GDP. Just about useful for quick reference. Two vital indicators are missing though: gross fixed capital formation and savings. And I'd add two more: public and private gold holding. The data changes in real time that's why the site is called Debt Clock. While data generation is vital, data presentation is important for people to understand the key features of national economy.

The author of this essay says, "Their project, Combating the Global Food Crisis, aims to provide a solution to low crop yields by pairing a nitrogen-fixing bacteria that naturally occurs in the soil with cereal crops it does not normally associate with, such as barley and oats. The results were incredible: the girls found their test crops germinated in half the time and had a drymass yield up to 74 percent greater than usual." Note that Sir Albert Howard, after three decades of research in India had concluded that the method of rice cultivation actually leads to profuse growth of nitrogen fixing blue-green algae, which re-fertilises the soil for the next two crops. This method in India ensured that soil fertility was maintained at high level.

So why was the car disappeared?  "The average gasoline consumption in the 1930's and 1940's was 15-20 miles per gallon, slightly higher for some cars." In 2004, the San Francisco Chronicle reported: "While official overall gas mileage of new U.S. passenger cars rose from about 14 miles per gallon in the late 1970s to a peak of 22 miles per gallon in 1987, it has since declined to 21 miles per gallon." CONCLUSION: big oil does not want efficient machines.

The modern umbrella was invented in China, and now it looks like the umbrella of the future will also come from China. Maybe.

In response to the mangled fabric-and-wire messes that litter streets after every rainstorm, a group of Chinese designers have invented what they think is the obvious next step in the rain-shade game: an air-powered umbrella stick. It's four days away from being funded on Kickstarter, and it's just as absurd as it sounds.
