How “Social Recruiting” Has NOT Changed Recruitment

How “Social Recruiting” Has NOT Changed Recruitment | Employer Branding and Social Recruiting | Scoop.it
I feel a moral obligation to weigh in on "social recruiting" again.
MHM HR's insight:
You Still Have to Talk to People

Social media gives recruiters and employers one more medium through which they can interact with potential candidates. However, social networking sites such as LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook are neither replacements nor prerequisites for telephonic or in-person communication.

Just because you can, is it really necessary to use a social network to message or interact with a potential candidate before speaking with them over the phone?

Why Content Marketing Fails (and what to do about it).

By Moz Rand Fishkin.

Guillaume Decugis's curator insight, June 9, 7:34 PM

This is a very dense deck by Moz founder Rand Fishkin but it's probably worth reading a few times.

The first point he makes is really about how to set the expectations - and therefore the KPI's right. As Barry Feldman recently pointed out, this is indeed critical and a good idea is to look at subscription/lead generation rather than direct sales.

But he also makes interesting points on the roles of community management and amplification.

To fly, your content needs to be designed to resonate with a community. But that's not enough: you also need to work on the mechanics of amplification which can come from social, 1:1 or SEO.

This brings back the necessity of having a solid content hub in place for your content marketing: one where your target audience can not only easily read all of your content, but also reshare from it and land on through SEO or email newsletters.

Source of Hire Report: Referrals, Career Sites, Job Boards Dominate - ERE.net

Source of Hire Report: Referrals, Career Sites, Job Boards Dominate - ERE.net | Employer Branding and Social Recruiting | Scoop.it
MHM HR's insight:

"...the most effective social media site that impacts hiring is clearly LinkedIn. By a long margin, LinkedIn job posts and using the LinkedIn Recruiter product seems to have the best results out of any of those. But even LinkedIn’s lesser-used features like groups or company pages still beat the effectiveness of Facebook and Twitter."

deborah johns's comment, July 12, 2013 12:43 PM
Source of hire can be so misleading. Candidates are influenced by advertising, and Social Media is advertising. Until you can track every source accurately it is still a guessing game as to which source is the most cost effective. However, if you are not "advertising" widely you could miss the best candidates, although you can't prove it.
MHM HR's comment, July 12, 2013 4:07 PM
Deborah, thanks for your comment. I agree, that still with Social Media sites like LinkedIn "adverstising" still plays plays an important role in the recruitment landscape.

Top Twitter Tools To Aid Your Social Recruiting Efforts

Top Twitter Tools To Aid Your Social Recruiting Efforts | Employer Branding and Social Recruiting | Scoop.it
You’ll know from my last post here that I’m a great fan of using twitter for social recruiting. However, there’s also the danger of twitter becoming a monumental time drain!
MHM HR's insight:

"I’m broadly a fan of quality over quantity on Twitter – you need to be connecting with the right people, both in terms of their profile for your business AND in terms of them actually being active users of the platform. But it’s also true that your recruiting success on twitter will be amplified significantly if your following is substantial rather than meagre."
