Emotional Intelligence in Business

Emotional Intelligence in Business | Emotional Intelligence | Scoop.it

There is a growing role for emotional intelligence in business.

Emotional Intelligence is increasingly relevant to organizations and businesses today, since it has been proven to help understand and assess people's behavior.

Although Emotional Intelligence became popular after the publication of Daniel Goleman's Book, "Emotional Intelligence", in 1995, it was researched and developed during the 70's and 80's.

What is Emotional Intelligence?

Peter Salovey and John Mayer defined EQ (Emotional Quotient) or EI (Emotional Intelligence) as made up of 5 elements:

Now combine what we understand about EQ / EI in sports and business and you see the importance of IT. In order to compete, to be part of an effective team, to pursue goals effectively being understanding your EQ is crucial to success. Can you imagine a team that functions well? Now imagine one that doesn't. It certainly seems to revolve around the elements of EI, now doesn't it?

How Sleep Deprivation Affects Athletic Performance

Mike Margolies's curator insight, September 12, 2013 6:49 PM

Good post on how athletes are effected by sleep deprivation. OK that seems intuitive, but a lot of the athletes I work with have not understood sleep. Look at the interesting result about how sleep effected performance later in the day. So an athlete might get 8 hours but disrupted. Their performance 8-12 hrs later can be impacted. I certainly appreciated the comment at the end not only about natural supplement like melatonin, but using a sport psych person to help with anxiety.
