Thanks for checking out my online magazine. It is my intent here to assemble informative and useful web content regarding alternative or holistic mental health treatments. This may include news, clinical studies, theories on mechanisms of action, or creative examples of how these techniques are being applied.
Early in my career as a professional psychologist, I became aware of the limitations of conventional "talking therapy." Although standard techniques will always have their place, often the underlying causes of symptoms are never determined, inadequate relief is provided, or quite simply - it takes way too long to get there! I've always been fascinated with the mind/body connection. I've also marveled at how little we still know about the way the human brain works and the true nature of the universe. Working with these tools may give us better insight into all of the above!
I discovered that such techniques as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), and hypnosis (I have a whole separate online magazine dedicated to it: http://www.scoop.it/t/cutting-edge-hypnotherapy) have truly led to profound, fast acting, and lasting transformations for my clients. Hope you enjoy learning about these tools and much more here!
As I have researched EMDR on the Internet, I have read comments regarding the efficacy of the treatment. Some folks claim that EMDR is a sham, that it does not do a bit of good in reducing the emotional load of trauma ...
I was recently on a flight from LA to Chicago. For the last 45 minutes of the flight I ended up tapping with the woman seated next to me. I think there are a number of lessons that can be learned from this session.
Editor's note: EFT's founder, Gary Craig makes the point that scripted EFT sessions deviate from his original protocol in non-productive ways typically. This is a video demonstrating the proper application of EFT toward addictive behavior. -Dan Galant, Ph.D.
Editor's note: Interview with Bill Cahell, author of the "Emotional Diet." Does a nice job of showing how multiple tools (e.g. hypnosis, EFT, CBT, and NLP) can be combined for optimal results, even with such a challenging issue as overeating.
Accessing the root cause of a problem and tapping on the events related to that can bring profound results with EFT tapping. A root cause, when it comes to EFT tapping, is a negative belief acquired at some point in time, that ...

Editor's note: Gary Craig, the founder of EFT has standardized and streamlined the technique based on the latest research. This is the new official site for EFT. A fantastic, comprehensive tutorial including written and video info in presented for training purposes (for both layperson and professional). Dan Galant, Ph.D.
Editor's note: University of Sydney study examines Sahaja Yoga meditation. Suggests that its emphasis on "mental silence" initiates demonstrable beneficial brain changes not observed with other meditation techniques. Although interesting, it remains true that one can benefit from the meditation technique of their choosing. I like to teach my clients Herbert Benson's, "Relaxation Response" meditation, due to it's ease of practice (see post below). -Dan Galant, Ph.D.
One of the most common things clients struggle with EFT is how to find the “right” words to use. Well there are no “right” words as I have written about in the past. In fact, we can tap without using any words at all.
Much is written about the healing qualities of EFT. Tapping can soothe negative feelings, change stinking thinking, and make physical pain disappear. But EFT is underutilized for the non-painful times in our lives.
