Good summary - 5 reasons to get excited about Augmented Reality in 2013 | Course Technology | Scoop.it
Next year, I predict that augmented reality (AR) will be everywhere. Here are my five reasons why:

Quote "It doesn’t exist, and it probably won’t. Augmented Reality is a horizontal technology, which means that the nigh-limitless applications make it a challenging endeavor to develop the Evernote-YouTube-Wordpress-Instagram of Augmented Reality. We did however see the AR Angry Birds, and even if it isn’t official it’s still a pretty clear indication that a successful AR game could lead the way for massive adoption. There are already some good examples out there, like the new JengAR game that inserts the 3-D content into the environment itself rather than needing a printed image."

I like it. But can folks new to social media learn from this graphic? Is there a less complex place to start and work up to it?

Melinda Miller's comment, July 29, 2013 8:34 AM
Liz, if you go to the original link, you will see the first edition of this from 2008. It is much less complex because Social Networks were less. It might be good to take a look at itt, even though it is not up-to-date. If I see an infographic that is a bit simpler, I will try to think to post it here.

GIANFRANCO MARINI's curator insight, May 10, 2013 5:04 PM

Taking "Fair Use" to the next level... CratePlayer is a web app which allows you to create compilations of video (and audio) clips coming from all your social media accounts as well as from YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Soundcloud or from any other website (a standard bookmarklet allows to easily grab video and audio content you find on the web.)

While it is not possible to upload your own files, it is possible to apply a visual cover, a description and relevant tags to each collection, which can be set to "private" or "public" depending on your needs. Furthermore you can invite additional persons to contribute to curate a specific collection.

Final collections can be easily shared on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, via email, or can be embedded on any web site or blog.

Organizing the World's Scientific Knowledge to make it Universally Accessible and Powerful:

Google Tech Talk April 30, 2013  - Abstract: Not all information is created equal. Accurate, innovative scientific knowledge generally has an enormous impact on humanity. It is the source of our ability to make predictions about our environment. It is the source of new technology (with all its attendent consequences, both positive and negative).  It is also a continuous source of wonder and fascination.

In general, the value and power of scientific knowledge is not reflected in the scale and structure of the information infrastructure used to house, store and share this knowledge. Many scientists use spreadsheets as the most sophisticated data management tool and only publish their data as PDF files in the literature. In this high-level talk, we describe a powerful, new knowledge engineering framework for describing scientific observations within a broader strategic model of the scientific process.

It is part of where we might need to go (Many of us have alreay departed for these shores) AND (not "but") does not eliminate the roles of teachers (it will mean teachers need to think quite differently about what it means to "teach"). What it means for schools is a different question (any more different than the usual demand to get out of the way of shifts in teaching practice and stop delaying change for so,long that it creates many more problems in the long run?)

Narrated Slideshow – Screencast Tool Comparison | Course Technology | Scoop.it

A screencast is a digital recording of a computer screen with audio narration. Screencasts can include telestrator (‘John Madden pen’) annotations. Narrated slideshows include audio recordings synchronized to images without hand-drawn annotations.

Screencasts and narrated slideshows can be created with two kinds of tools:

1. Browser-based: Create an account on the website and use a modern web browser like Google Chrome or FireFox to record, save and share it.

2. Client-based: Download and install software on a computing device to record and save.

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: Awesome Poster on Bloom's Revised Taxonomy

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: Awesome Poster on Bloom's Revised Taxonomy | Course Technology | Scoop.it

Med Kharback:

I just got this poster from a fellow teacher featuring the 6 thinking skills as outlined in the revised taxonomy. As you probably know, Blooms taxonomy that was first created in the 1950s has been revised by Krathwohl and there are two  main changes that appeared in this revised taxonomy: the first one is semantic in that nouns are now being replaced with verbs; and the second change relates to the order of these thinking skills. In the old taxonomy, Bloom highlighted the importance of evaluating and therefore placed it at the top of the  thinking continuum, but for Krathwohl Creating is the highest order thinking skill.
