Ethan Condon's insight:

Black hats are learning, adapting, becoming more subtle and more destructive simultaneously. They quickly learn that traditional methods do not work for very long, and as a result switch up their tactics to create the most benefit for themselves while debilitating others.

They learn how virus scanners are operating, what particular files, code lines, and keywords a virus scanner searches for. This allows them to avoid these particular areas while still creating havoc throughout the world. Sometimes it is even too late to react, because the only way you know something is happening, is when it has already happened.

Ethan Condon's insight:

IT is a massively growing sector of the world, demanding more and more IT Technicians, administrators, and programmers than ever before. Multiple trends rapidly develop and eventually become standard.

Cloud computing is one of these trends. Cloud computing is a heavily invested hardware and software configuration that allows immediate access to whatever is available on the cloud servers. This can be a personal drive, a public drive, an online music system like Pandora, a digital purchasing system like iTunes, even simple personal cloud services like those provided by Mega and Google

As a result of this massive usage, servers need to be rapid, responsive, and capable of massive amounts of workload. This is why flash storage is becoming more relevant and heading towards something mandatory as opposed to optional.

Solid State Drives (SSDs) provide a substantial speed boost through their incredible read speeds. Most SSDs average out at around 550Megabytes Per Second (MBps), while a traditional hard drive would max out at around 200-250MBps. There are also PCI-E SSD's that max out at 1GBps (1Gigabyte per second, now that's FAST)

Not only is there hardware that is controlling a standard IT environment, but there is software as well. Software-defined networking (SDN) and software-defined storage (SDS). These methods can reduce the costs of IT Infrastructure by 15-20% through:

Data Deduplication and data compression
Extended backup technology
and compression and deduplication file size preservation in order to reduce hard drive necessities.

Carbon fibre composites make World Economic Forum's list of Top 10 Emerging Technologies 2014 - Reinforced Plastics | Emerging IT Technologies | Scoop.it
In its annual list of technologies with the potential to have a positive impact on the world, The World Economic Forum says nanostructured carbon composites could be used to manufacture lightweight cars which need less fuel to operate and produce...
Ethan Condon's insight:

Carbon emissions are a massive problem in today's society, causing global warming, severe damage to various environments that animals require in order to survive, and a plethora of other problems.

Nanostructured Carbon-Fiber composites are a good step in the right direction. Reducing Carbon Monoxide emissions as a result of a lighter vehicle is the first step of many to improve the current issue. It will also save people a considerable amount of money in the long run as a result of less fuel consumption.

Security & Privacy for Existing and Emerging Technologies

Franziska Roesner, Computer Science & Engineering, University of Washington 03/11/2014.
Ethan Condon's insight:

While our technology is evolving at an incredible rate, so is the potential of that technology to create malicious tools in order to sabotage, extort, destroy, and disrupt many services around the world.

It is a very common occurrence of people having credit card details stolen, bank information hijacked through Trojan's, IT services slowed to a halt from a worm, and various other security and stability issues that can be created from one's fingertips.
