Hotmail Fixes Symbol Email Rendering Issues - Email Marketing Lounge

Last week we saw an industry wide email rendering change within all Hotmail accounts. Hotmail users saw that specific ASCII characters within their emails were replaced with gif images. The swapped out characters included "©", "®", and "™" along with the spade "♠", club "♣", heart "♥" and diamond "♦". These characters were replaced with a standard 19x19 pixel Microsoft emoji icon, which typically disrupted an email marketer's branding.

Could after-hours email restrictions hurt email marketers?

The rapid growth of mobile technology and its adoption throughout society has arguably been a boon to both employers and employees. When put in capable hands, a smart phone can be an incredible promoter of productivity.

But that doesn't mean that smart phones are perfect. There's a reason, after all, that many corporate workers given Blackberries coined the term 'Crackberry.'

In short, one of the most attractive features of smart phones (24/7 connectivity and communication) is one of its greatest downsides. Information overload is a real threat, and employees are, in many cases, effectively always on the job.

US Email Marketers to Adapt to New Californian Law

What starts in California often ends up here...

In March of this year, the Californian court made a new ruling about email sender identification that now has marketers across the US scratching their heads on how to modify their campaigns to stay out of the legal fire.

This new law is all about discouraging the sending of promotional emails that contain false or misrepresenting header information. It strictly demands that commercial email advertisements (in other words, email sent specifically to sell a product or advertise a service) must include a domain name which is registered to the sender in the ‘from’ line of the email, or the name of the sender or marketer on whose behalf the email was sent.
