iPad Mania: 20 ideas for sparking interest in class with iPads - Ditch That Textbook

iPad Mania: 20 ideas for sparking interest in class with iPads - Ditch That Textbook | Elementary Education | Scoop.it
“ When Steve Jobs introduced the world to the iPad, it was a marvel that had the potential to make big change. It was visually stunning. It was tactile. It shortened some work from minutes to seconds. The iPad’s possibilities in education were seen quickly and have developed over time. It’s easy to say that tech is just a tool, but if we don’t seek how we can leverage its potential, we’re shortchanging our students. In our weekly half-hour #DitchBook chat (10 p.m. Eastern, 9 p.m. Central, 8 p.m. Mountain, 7 p.m. Pacific), we recently discussed how we can “Ditch That Textbook” with the iPad.”

4 Phases of Inquiry-Based Learning: A Guide For Teachers

4 Phases of Inquiry-Based Learning: A Guide For Teachers | Elementary Education | Scoop.it

According to Indiana University Bloomington, Inquiry-based learning is an “instructional model that centers learning on a solving a particular problem or answering a central question. There are several different inquiry-based learning models, but most have several general elements in common:

1. Learning focuses around a meaningful, ill-structured problem that demands consideration of diverse perspectives

2. Academic content-learning occurs as a natural part of the process as students work towards finding solutions

3. Learners, working collaboratively, assume an active role in the learning process

4. Teachers provide learners with learning supports and rich multiple media sources of information to assist students in successfully finding solutions

5. Learners share and defend solutions publicly in some manner”

Apple to streamline iPad resource sharing in schools

Apple to streamline iPad resource sharing in schools | Elementary Education | Scoop.it

"Apple is revamping its iPad deployment strategy to make it easier for schools to share tablets among students, according to an official email obtained by MacRumors.

Under the forthcoming system, apps can be assigned to a tablet without an Apple ID, meaning schools can distribute an app to a large number of tablets at once instead of having to input IDs one by one. "

ICTE Solutions Australia's curator insight, December 28, 2015 11:43 PM

In an ICT integrated society, it is important that people are information literate. That means being able to search for and analyse information for their benefits. As websites on the Internet become more popular teachers need to teach their students the right skills and knowledge so that their students are able to become information literate. Any guide therefore, that will assist teachers in doing so is worth using as a resource as reference for both teachers and students to use.

Nice infographic!

David Allen Wizardgold's curator insight, August 14, 2015 3:07 AM
It is a shame that many teachers are afraid of technology and won't allow it in the classroom. They see it as a challenge to their control of the students and subject matter within the classroom. To a certain extent it is reasonable because the technology can be used for things other than learning in the classroom. The teachers have a responsibility to get as many of the students to have learned the curriculum for the day and it can't be done if the students are stuck in Facebook. The next thing will be to change the examination system to support the use of new technology rather than requiring students hit the paper with those old-fashioned pens.I'd like to think that there is a way technology can be used as it should be within the classroom. If the students are allowed to make full use of 21st-century technology then maybe the teachers will be able to teach for the next century instead of being stuck in the last one.
