Yes! It's beneficial to teach kids art isn't always pretty. There's a range of creative expression which can be considered Beautiful. One artist I know says she finds beauty in all the wrong places. It's good to expose kids to a range of what's considered beautiful. Creative expression encompasses a broad spectrum of the concept of beauty. And then there's always " Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder." Many upper elementary students especially have a concept of perfection to attain in their art work. Encouraging students to appreciate the imperfections of handmade art is valuable as well as to be aware of the conceptual range of beauty.
