Election by Actual (Not Fictional) People
American elections feature an epic struggle between actual people trying to express their views in the face of fictional "people" (i.e., Corporations) trying to buy influence. I want to highlight topics such as corrupt money in politics, campaign lies and dishonesty, voter suppression.

True tales of why Voter ID laws can be more onerous than they seem.
Daniel Mayeda's insight:

Nothing can be more patriotic than voting.  Republicans who have enacted laws with the undeniable aim of preventing or discouraging citizens from voting forfeit the right to be called true Americans.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A two-year investigation by the Republican-controlled House Intelligence Committee has found that the CIA and the military acted properly in responding to the 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, and asserted no wrongdoing by Obama administration appointees.
Daniel Mayeda's insight:

Too bad the Republicans running for President in 2016 won't accept the facts and these conclusions, even if they were determined by their own party.

Two Republican parties officials were behind the confusing automated phone calls to Chicago election judges ahead of the election, the Chicago Sun Times reported.

The weekend before the election, multiple election judges received robocalls telling them that they needed to attend additional training in order to help with the Nov. 4 election. At least one robocall gave the judges instructions on voting.

Regardless of which way the voting machines act up (the video shows a vote for the Republican candidate being recorded as a vote for the Democratic candidate), it is a huge problem and shows why such machines should not be widely used.

Jim Crow returns

Jim Crow returns | Election by Actual (Not Fictional) People | Scoop.it
On seeing his name on the list of potential double voters, Sang Park, an elderly volunteer with the advocacy center, mutters, “It’s outrageous!” Park is not upset that his name appears in the list — Sang Park is roughly as common in Korea as John Jackson is among African-Americans — but that Crosscheck has obviously not cross-checked Social Security numbers.
Daniel Mayeda's insight:

OUTRAGEOUS effort by the GOP to disenfranchise MILLIONS of voters across the country by forcing people who have common first and last names to take affirmative steps to prove they did not vote in two different states.  The "crosscheck" lists disproportionately ensnare people of color.  African Americans often have surnames taken from slave owners; the number of Asian Americans who have the last names "Lee" or "Park" are legion; etc.
