Phil Havlik's insight:

Good concept, but the overall exception exists (at least in a car) of how to do these things with your eyes and concentration still on the road. If you're on a bus/train/conference room, etc. I'm all for it!

Blended Learning and Mobile Performance Support: Ahead of the Curve

Blended Learning and Mobile Performance Support: Ahead of the Curve | eLearning worth eKnowing | Scoop.it
We can't keep thinking of training as a one-time event.

That sums up the philosophy behind blended learning and the majority of mobile learning being implemented today—and it couldn't be more tru
Phil Havlik's insight:

Great article! The key point is the tag line: Training cannot be a one-time event. We somehow switch the mentality from training that supports to training that marks a compliance checkbox. To be effective, users need continuing support wrapped with immersive, safe learning experiences.

Professor Sugata Mitra imagines an alternative education system with no need for memorisation or teaching to test
Phil Havlik's insight:

I think there's good information here to consider, but also worth really thinking through the value of balancing knowledge stored on the Internet vs. knoweldge stored in your head. Annie Murphy Paul had a good post to her blog and to Time magazine about storing important information in our heads and not just blindly trusting what you read.

This is an immensely critical question for me, as so much of the work I do is either compliance based, or safety based prompted by an increased number of incident reports. Either way, people generally know what is right or wrong and yet continue. Great information and research to follow.

Ryan McDonough's curator insight, July 7, 5:19 AM

Self explanatory visual on the benefits of gaming as a means of learning. Outlined are the rewards, mastery, engagement, intensity, exercise, readiness, and competitiveness. These types of graphics need to be displayed in the classroom. There's always parents who are unsure of how gaming qualifies as teaching. Can't they just sit their kid in front of an iPad all day at home? Well, in the appropriate setting, with the right direction and guidance, games are certainly good for learning. Some people just don't know that from experience yet.
