Integrating iPads and Tablets into Library Services

Part 1 of 2-Part Webinar, presented March 14, 2013 by Rebecca K. Miller, Heather Moorfield-Lang, and Carolyn Meier.
Anthony Beal's insight:

Two presentations from the American Library Association on all aspects of using tablet computers in libraries. Very comprehensive and include lots of ideas for usage, apps, sample policies and user agreements and case studies from many different types of libraries. Part two contains the academic library case studies. American bias but lots of useful general information.

Apple make some great Apps e.g. iMovie, Keynote, Pages, Numbers, iPhoto and GarageBand. People will shell out for them because they are fab.

However, in the new VP era, it is more expensive for schools managing small class sets e.g… iMovie £2.99, Keynote£6.99, Pages £6.99, Numbers £6.99, iPhoto £2.99 and GarageBand £2.99 on up to 20 iPads will cost a wapping (no pun intended) £600.

So if you’ve not been saving your pennies you need to do some smart thinking.

Taking the Tablets - Slides - ALT-C 2012 | eLearning tools | Scoop.it

James Clay's presentation on tablet computers at  ALT-C 2012

"The tablet computer is not a new idea, but recently has had an impact on learning and teaching across a range of institutions in the UK and elsewhere. In this session I will try to tackle the following questions.

What do we currently understand to be a tablet? What is the primary functionality? How are tablets being used right now for supporting, and enhancing learning and teaching? What sort of learning activities and scenarios are making best use of the tablet format? Are these devices for content consumption, content creation, interaction, or all three? So where next? Where will tablets take us? Do institutions purchase tablets for all their students? Or do we let or require students to buy and bring their own? And if the latter what does this mean for how we organise provision?..."
