Integrating iPads and Tablets into Library Services

Part 1 of 2-Part Webinar, presented March 14, 2013 by Rebecca K. Miller, Heather Moorfield-Lang, and Carolyn Meier.
Anthony Beal's insight:

Two presentations from the American Library Association on all aspects of using tablet computers in libraries. Very comprehensive and include lots of ideas for usage, apps, sample policies and user agreements and case studies from many different types of libraries. Part two contains the academic library case studies. American bias but lots of useful general information.

The Huddersfield Open Access Publishing (HOAP) project is part of the JISC Digital infrastructure programme.

The project aimed to develop a platform using EPrints software as a low cost, sustainable method to convert the University journal, Teaching in Lifelong Learning, from its existing model of a print subscription to an open access e-journal. The platform will now be used to convert other existing University journals in the future as well as a ‘best of Huddersfield research’ title that will draw its content from the Repository.

One of the outcomes of the project was to develop this toolkit for other institutions to use.

14 Bloom's Taxonomy Posters For Teachers

14 Bloom's Taxonomy Posters For Teachers | eLearning tools | Scoop.it

Bloom’s Taxonomy is a useful tool for assessment design, but using it only for that function is like using a race car to go to the grocery–a huge waste of potential.

In an upcoming post we’re going to look at better use of Bloom’s taxonomy in the classroom, but during research for that post it became interesting how many variations there are of the original work. While a handful of the charts below only show aesthetic changes compared to others, most are concept maps of sorts–with graphic design that signifies extended function (power verbs), detail (clear explanations), or features of some sort (Bloom’s Taxonomy tasks by level).

Minister praises new NIACE maths app "Maths Everywhere "

Minister praises new NIACE maths app "Maths Everywhere " | eLearning tools | Scoop.it

The new NIACE maths app – Maths Everywhere – has been praised by the Skills Minister, Matthew Hancock MP, at the AoC Conference in Birmingham today, as one example of how technology is transforming teaching and learning.

Matthew Hancock, said:

"Embracing technology involves changing the role of the teacher. Less lecturer, more tutor. Supporting and guiding pupils as they learn. Developing character. mentoring and motivating. Just as blackboards were resisted two hundred years ago because teachers didn’t want to turn their backs to the class, but quickly became ubiquitous, so in a few short years online technology will form a huge part of the way we teach."

Anthony Beal's insight:

Currently in BETA. and only available for the web. The Android and Apple apps are due for release by the middle of December. Feedback is welcomed. Have a look at - http://www.mathseverywhere.org.uk/ ;
