Find Public Google Docs

Google Docs and Google Drive don't offer the option to find public files, but you can do that using Google search. Search engines only index the files that are "public on the Web". By default, files are private, but you can change the visibility from the "Share" box.

Here are some useful queries that let you find public Google Drive/Docs files (you can append some keywords to the queries):

Google - Project Glass: what you need to know | eLearning tools | Scoop.it

"When Google unveiled Project Glass, the tech world instantly fell into two camps. Camp one was excited: we're living in the sci-fi future! Camp two, though, wasn't so happy. It's vapourware! some said, while others worried that Google just wanted to plaster ads on the entire world. Is either camp correct? Let's find out."

Coolest Google Docs Demo Ever.

Coolest Google Docs Demo Ever. | eLearning tools | Scoop.it

Google Docs is one of those things that we tend to use daily but don’t get the full experience. I know that I personally don’t use all of its capabilities, especially when it comes to collaboration. I end up using it like a flat Word document.

Google has pushed out a pretty cool demo, which invites you to collaborate with some of the greatest writers of all time. Kind of.

A “famous writer” will start typing and then it’s your turn. Once you’ve typed in the next line, the writer takes over. It’s kind of fun.

"I’m currently teaching a first year module on Open Source Software, one of the requirements for which is students write their findings up as blog posts. For that reason I thought it might be useful to be able to keep track of how much my students have been writing. Given there are 80 students on the module, some automation here would also be useful!"

Mark Ayton's curator insight, April 3, 2014 10:18 AM

When you're comfortable with MS Office, despite the sharing and real-time collaboration advantages, the leap to Google Docs can seem just too much! Then there's all your existing Word, Excel and Powerpoint files, will they all need reworking?

Fret no more! MS has replicated just about every Google feature in a very familiar Office environment. It's web-based so will run on any device with a browser. It has all the common MS Office menu items and features, plus it allows sharing and real time collaboration. There are even forms for collecting survey / quiz data in spreadsheets.

I'm not aware of any scripting / add-in capability yet, but I'm sure it won't be far away.
